Bosscat works project.

Post by Bormac »

Being a crazy mad Schumacher fan its hard to go past the Bosscat. For me this was Schumachers ultimate 4WD buggy from the 'crashback' front end line of buggies. Its clearly an evolutionary thing and by the time the Bosscat design was down pat they sorted all the problems that would catch racers out on the earlier cars.
Ive built a handful of Bosscat buggies over the years and I've slowly been collecting nip spares for another build. Luckily a car came up on ebay and it has been the perfect donor for this project. On this occassion I ended up with a very good place to start. The chassis plate is the 'USA' version which mounts the battery packs futher forward and inward of the original chassis layout.
After stripping the donor car down I cleaned and inspected every part of the old car. The rear diff pulley had an unusual wear and was definately going to the bin.
Over the past year Ive managed to collect the following nip items-
*Purple 'works' transmission side plates.
*Front and rear complete 23mm 'pro' alloy diffs, pulleys and accessories.
*Genuine Schumacher drive belts.
*Front suspension arms.
*Front uprights.
*Front hubs.
*Front 'one way' driveshafts.
*Complete set of rubber sheild bearings.
*All four dark green 'pro' shock bodies and seal housings.
*Alloy roller driveshafts for the rear (yet to go on).
*Lexan lower belt cover.
*Stainless steel screw set.
*Front bulk head and bumper set.
*Rear wing mounts.
*Rear wing.
The car isnt finished but Im not from done now. I'll keep the post updated when Im done. :D

That looks great!. I was a factory driver for schumacher for many years, and always loved that car (one of my three favorites). I noticed that you have the brown rubber shield on the bearings. I found that if you take the shield out, and re-install it backward (inside out), that you get much less drag, and still get a decent seal to keep the bearings relativelly clean. I have been considering getting one myself (again:) as vintage racing is heating up in my area. Keep us posted.-Jeff

Thanks for the info Jeff. I think the Bosscat is the more reliable car of all the early CATs and a definate powerhouse. This is the second 'works' i currently have and I used to run a 5.5t B/L in my other car. The belts have held up fine too.
Not sure wether I'll keep or sell this car off yet. Time will tell though. :D
