I did the polish thing and I always said I wouldn't.Also dyed the parts black. When I painted the body I left the sides clear so the advertising would show with the polished chassis. . .
After I polished it ,It left alot of fingerprints when handled. I then put on Mothers Mag and Aluminum Polish and the shine was even brighter and It leaves a protective coating. Fingerprints are almost non existent.
i like restored tub's very nice job makes a lot more sense polishing/re-anodising then spending 250 on a new world's or powder coated chassis, ya need ya head read imho!
Anyone have some helpful hints to accomplish this? I don't think I could get the same results. Well, let me stop there and do some searching out here but think a How to Polish would be a good sticky!!!
The most common way is to use varying grits of sandpaper but I've never polished anything that way before. I just use different buffing wheels on a bench grinder. I wouldn't recommended that method for small or intricate parts though.
i recently accuired an rc10t that someone hacked. i originally purchased it for my girlfriend but her driving skills aren't up to par and i was afraid she would break an irreplaceable part so i confiscated it and decided to restore it. Originally i...

one good thing about the 10t is that a lot of the parts are still readily available. the ones that are prone to damage, anyway.
being as though the tub is pretty much shot already, i would just do whatever you want to it. if it doesn't work out,...
I wasn't real sure where to put this, but I figured here would be a good place.
I've found that a good polish for lexan bodies is Arctic Cat Hood & Windshield Cleaner/Polish for snowmobiles. I've cleaned up some pretty good scratches and scuffs...

I have a pro-painted Customworks Camaro shell that was really scratched up from someone trying to remove some price tags, or discount stickers or something- anyway...Meguires' headlight restorer works wonders with heavy damage as well :D
I got some alloy pieces that have noticable machining marks that were revealed after some deanodizing. straight polishing just takes way too much effort to get shined up so I went to a sand paper first.
At moment, it seems like a 500 grit is enough...

Cool. I have a few bodies that need paint, I think I'll give it a try. 8)
Just curious....I figure it might be different for a shelfer, or I might look into power coating or anodizing after I smooth it out. I have all the tools for polishing, so thought that would be my most economical option.
Here is a closeup of my old...

Dig this........ Oven cleaner takes the anodizing off, but won't touch the paint! ZipStrip took care of that. 8)
Here is showing you how to use Micro Finishing Film to Grind & Polish the 1/12 Diff. Ring.
This is the Associated Diff Ring ( 12LW). The ring is “cone”when punched out during in the manufacturing process. So, we need to use the micro finishing film...

I've been running the same 12 ceramic diff balls in my B4 for 2 years now, they last a little while  I haven't gotten around to doing the diff ring sanding, thrust ring sanding, ceramic everything yet but that was a good start and a noticeable...
All the polished shape ways parts I have received in the past months has a sandblast finish to them. Did the shapeways polished parts always have this rough surface to them? What's the easiest way to get them to have a smooth polished surface? I...

If the part is flat where you want it to be polished, use a whet stone.
Something higher than 800 or 1000 grit to polish it and in a few minutes you will be as smoooooth as Rod's butt!
I have some shock bodies that I'm probably going to stip the anodizing off because they are already loosing the color due to shock springs rubbing and general use. I would get them powdercoated but I'm afraid that the coating would interfere with...
