Damnit why are Tamiya Tires So Good Looking

Post by mikedealer »

so ive been searching for some different tire styles for a couple different buggies i am making, and CONSTANTLY between internet searches and ebay searches, i keep finding GREAT 1.5" tires from tamiya and crp etc. I have a bunch of different aluminum rims ive been collecting over the years but they are all 1.9-2.2 for fronts and 2.0-2.2 for rears...

Does anyone know if a 1.5" tire can be stretched or even fitted to even a 1.9 or 2.0" front rim? Does anyone know how a 1.5" tire would look on a rc10? The Front i can see smaller, but the rear would probably look ridiculous

any ideas where i can get some good looking tires other than imex, proline, panther and/or losi? those seem to be the only guys making tires..

hell im ready to get messy at this point and figure out how to make a mold and find some rubber where i can make my own tires.. Hell how hard could it be lol (im sure ill eat those words $500 later in supplies haha)

I have stretched the smoothie onto a 1.9 inch rim and it looked like crap. Too much distortion on the walls. I tried cutting down a set and ruined a perfectly new set.

You could use some of the older 1.5 wheels with the RC10 bearing adapters. I have several sets of the the 3 piece MIP I think? black wheels I am adapting for a couple cars.

Mine are a little snug but a little tooling should fix it. Here is a set on the Bay:

You pop them into say grasshopper wheels and viola.

OOps, proline I do believe. I'll see if I can find a pick of some.

they actually made some front wheels for the Stealth 4-10 Legend MIP kit, but that's another story

You can see those little white adapters hiding in there, behind the bearing flange. That will let you use the front rims off what Tammies?

Just to clarify...

The 4-10 MIP kit (the second 4x4 kit from MIP) is the chain drive kit with an option of a belt drive this was made to fit the short arm RC10. This did not come with wheels.

The legend kit was the last 4x4 kit from MIP which only came in belt drive to fit the wide arm RC10 and this was the kit that included the MIP wheels.

Alternatively get a set of these HPI adapters from Tower and you can fit all Tamiya front wheels on just about anything, they are what i use to fit HPI 5 spokes on my RC10.

For the rears Tamiyas 1.5" tyres can fit on the original RC10 3 piece wheels or it is fairly easy to modify Tamiya Frog wheel adapters to fit Tamiyas 3 piece wheels on the RC10.
