Finally I have finished collecting parts. The carbon chassis was the last piece of the puzzle and is on the way to me this week. What a mission it has been finding so many items. I cannot wait to start the build shortly, in a week or so.
What is the longest you have been collecting parts for? I guess my saga has been half a year, if not longer...
Ever since I bought a parts car Kyosho Salute, back in the mid 80's, followed by my buddy's Turbo Optima when he got bored of the hobby, just in case my own Optima needed anything. So, for decades.
So far the longest (still on-going) has been 4 years, but that is a result of looking for 100% correct parts in new or NIP condition that were non existent when they were new, and silly rare now.
Most builds take 2+ years for new parts, or 5-10x the money to do it in a few months.
Waiting to find the correct, mint or perfect part can take years! I build most of my cars with what I can find at the time and then upgrade the parts as they become available! Some parts I have been looking (but not looking very hard, just seems too much like work! ) for over 13 years!
I've been collecting RC500 parts for about the last 5-6 years. I almost have everything I need to finish three on-going project cars. I'm in no hurry...
Well, I started my Schumacher Daytona thread on here almost five years ago...... long after I started actually collecting bits for it..... .and it's STILL not complete yet.

If I get an idée for a project it can take 1-2 years collecting parts before I actually start the build. I have a project where I have all the parts but nothing has happened for 2½ years…

same thing here... takes a year at least to round up the stuff to do a good project, then another couple of years to get started buuilding it as you're too busy rounding up parts for the next project

I've never been one to acquire all of the parts I needed to build a car at one shot. If I had enough stuff in hand to start building that is what I did. But, I enjoy doing the build threads and showing my progress over many many years :lol: so...

I wish I had a cool picture to contribute. The second I get a new part in the mail it's ripped from its bag and installed on the part it directly attaches to. I have no patience for building stuff.
This is the beginnings of my JRX-2 resto. I want to get it back as close as I can to the way I ran it on dirt ovals back in '90-'91, complete w/ EDM body.
I still have a ways to go and many parts to get. Most of my parts got molested over time,...
Has anyone prepped their cars and associated parts for long term storage? I thinking some stuff may stay in boxes for years. What works and what doesn't?

I stashed a load of old cars away in various tubs & cases for about 6yrs in various locations loft, garage, shed etc & the one that fared the best was in a cardboard box with lots of scrunched up newspaper around it so obviously the key is...

Let me first say that I love the RC-10. That buggy was heads of above the rest when it first came out. One thing I noticed is that eventhough it's a superior car, it has no where near the collector interest than even the lame tamiya's. Really nice...
