RC12E Resto Greenwood Corvette

Post by PlastiZapCA+ »

Like I really need to start another project. Anyway this will be an RC12E with the Greenwood Corvette body from TBG. This will have period correct electronics and it will be fully functional like all my cars so far. It will be a resistor car too since I like those things. Lets see how fast (or not  ) I can finish this one.

With the exception of a bearing set I have everything to get it done.
Image

Before I started I made a copy of the chassis plate for my Vega funny car project. It will have a clear poly chassis and radio tray but that is a story for another time.
Image

Chassis was really rough but cleaned up after lots o' sanding and polishing.
Image

Just waiting for the plastic bits to finish soaking in peroxide. Should start assembly by morning.
Image

And the TBG vette body. Not sure of the scheme yet. I plan on adding some scale details to it to liven it up a bit.

Like the Old Blue scheme sans the logo. Not sure yet.

Will be making those winglets for the rear. Also like parts of that scheme.

Cool project. How about the 1976 Corvette that ran at Le Mans??

That was my first thought but I doubt I could pull off a paint job like that without a set of masks. The stripes are not hard it's the design on the hood that would give me trouble. Then I would need sponsor logos which are hard to find in this scale. I was thinking about incorporating some of the designs from all three cars to arrive at my own variation. We shall see.

Decided to give the plastic parts a little more peroxide time so I turned my attention to fabricating a new bumper and radio tray.

Here are the rough cut parts.

The slim bumper found on the RC12i will be needed to fit this body.

Here is the rough cut piece.

I want the bumper completely hidden under the body so more trimming will be required. I'll wait until the parts can be bolted up before trimming it any further.
Image

And the radio tray is next. I just cut it out on the table saw and then shape it on the belt sander. Later the parts will be fine sanded and polished with a buffer.
Image

Not bad for a rough cut part. More fine tuning will be in order once I get the chassis together. I'll try to do a little work everyday to get this car finished up as quick as possible.

Forgot to mention that I picked up these cool body mounts for the rear of the car. They just slip over the rear tubes.

Didn't know that! Don't think I want to use it then so I'll have to come up with something else to mount the rear body up. Thanks for the info. :D

I scored two Leisure 05 ROAR legal stockers so I decided to use one. The motor is fresh from the package.

I have the correct Associated motor connectors coming in for this little beauty too.

This looks great, nice work. I need me a Vette body, so cool looking. Probably the best body shape/sports car ever made.

Thanks Dave! I've been wanting to do this car for quite some time. Hopefully I can pull it off.
