Orangemazda's sneak peek OIN project

Post by orangemazda »

Guys,

I've been collecting parts for my OIN build for a while now. This is not all the parts I have, and I still have some parts on order which are on the way. I just got excited to show you guys a sneak peek at the chassis I got back from the powder coaters today. It's kind of funny to think that I bought that crummy (but straight) B stamp on Ebay last week and that the truck nose plate and motor plate came off my old RC10T that I used to race back in 1992! They were all mixmatched and gross, now they look awesome!

I'll start putting her together shortly and keep my thread updated with progress. I'm sure I'll be digging through OIN builds on this site as well as asking some questions along the way.

My search for RPM 70272 axle carriers continue...

I ordered Custom Works Rear Axle Carriers 3241 but I'm not sure if I like the way they look with the ball joint straight up. Anyone else using these? Also do you still need the B4 axle "crush tube" bearing spacers with these axle carriers?

what front tower is that? looks like it's for a standard buggy nose, not a truck.

Nope, It's a custom one that Fibre-lyte made. It's for standard length shocks on the Truck nose.

I wanted the tower right when I saw it in Rayzerp's thread - http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=33928&start=30

Oh. It's as wide as a standard shock tower though, that's why I questioned it.

I laid an RC10T tower ontop of this Fyber-lyte tower last night. The inner ball joint holes are just a touch further outboard then the T-tower. The inner, bottom corners of the Fyber-lyte tower are exactly where the nose tubes pass through the T-tower. This Fyber-lyte tower just stands the shocks more upright, and obviously uses the shorter shocks. It should work and look pretty nifty! (hopefully :D )

Orangemazda,

Looking at those parts I feel like a kid looking in the window of a candy store!

Cheers, Dave.

It works perfectly on my car anyway! I purposely moved the ball joint holes out a tiny bit when I designed the tower as it was tricky to fit the tower around the nose tubes and include the holes while keeping enough material to retain strength in the tower. Its tight but it fits!

Progress is slow but I was able to get out to the shop and tinker a bit on my project. Here are a few update pics:

I also wanted to ask, what tie-rods are you OIN-ers using on your cars? I think I'll be ordering white RPM ball cups but need to know what rods to use.

Hi Orangemazda,

Who makes the black rear arms you have on the chassis now, do you have matching fronts as well?

Cheers, DaveM.
