RC10 CE baja bug project
RC10 CE baja bug project
Thanks to CraigB on the site here, I'm the proud new owner of this here goldpan CE. I've been reliving my childhood by rebuilding and racing Kyosho optimas (my first rc), but I had a 6 gear goldpan too that was no slouch 25 years ago. I built a RB5 buggy for my daughter, and wanted something to run with her as everything else I have is either a shelfer or racer. Here's what I've got to start with:
Now I'm going to toss a $13.50 sensored esc, $5 servo and $7 rx from hobbyking in it along with a $25 17.5 motor. That's got to be a record for cheapest running gear
I'll probably creatively trim a parma beetle, don't want to shorten the wheelbase on this one

Re: RC10 CE baja bug project
Thanks, it is! Just how I like it, just scraped up enough that I don't feel bad running it. I will probably shed a tear when I scuff up those fresh aluminum rims though . Got some parts in today including servo mounting hardware and a bulkhead that will fit a lipo- sweet.
Re: RC10 CE baja bug project
Electronics are in, bulkhead replaced, shocks rebuilt with fresh o-rings and green slime. Thanks to vintageguy for the motor!
With the body that came with it, which is nice but I gots to have that bug!

Re: RC10 CE baja bug project
I can say from experience, that Bug bodies suck on RC cars. They don't jump right, anongst other issues. When I went from a bug body, to a truck, the handeling changed dramatically. One vehicle was an RC10, which then went back to a buggy body, and the other was a Slash, which went back to the truck body. I think it's the "parachute" effect. So if you plan on doing jumps, or any track time, a bug is not a good idea.
Re: RC10 CE baja bug project
Hey, you're harshing my mellow dude . I agree, the bugs not the best choice for racing, I had to add a wing to my Optima to get it to fly right.
Truth is, I'm just going to be bopping around the driveway with my kid so I'm not too concerned with ultimate performance.

A bit of nylon block drilled and tapped in the front and some aluminum angle in the back for the body mounts...
I think it looks decent, now for paint

Re: RC10 CE baja bug project
It's the baja bug/scorcher clone, WB is a little short but I trimmed the rear fenders off for clearance and was able to shift it forward to split the difference.JK Racing wrote:Which Parma Beetle is that? Looks the right size all around

I like that! Looks great and the body fits well too. I would not have noticed the wheelbase being short if you had not said anything.
