Old School Tracks

Post by Y'ernat Al »

This came with a stack of paperwork that I had boxed up with an old Tamiya Special Racing Buggy. I think "PRESENT" is actually maybe just moments before the RC10 was unleashed, circa early to mid '80's. Some of the 'timers may recognize a track or two. Note the track owners are listed along with the addresses. I Google Earthed a couple of the addresses. It's cool to see what has come to replace some of these old tracks..

That's cool. The Fantasy World track in Tacoma is no more, but the hobby shop is still going strong in a new location, and Dave is still at the helm. They race on road cars in a huge parking lot every Sunday while the weather holds and recently held their first annual RC swap meet.

Who is Gil Lossi?

It's cool to see that Fantasy World was going way back when. When I was down in SoCal my local track was Radio Controlled Hobbies (RCH). I wasn't racing yet when the store and track was on 19th street. I started racing shortly after the store was move a few blocks away (Placentia Ave.). This is still by far the best track I've raced on with a nice mix of off-road and dirt oval. Just a cool place that we could hang out all day either racing or practicing. Oh those were the days. Now that I live the Eastern Washington the only track available locally is the outdoor Sullivan raceway (a nice small track).

Is that the track that had a indoor dirt offroad, a slot car track, and an on site HS in an old (I believe) Walmart building?

I raced at JOROCC in the late 80s, but I don't remember when it was first opened.
