project 4x4 tomahawk

Post by jasen »

ok thought id start a new thread . iv done a bit of work on it today just trying to see how every thing fits. so far i have a scorpion chassie and suspension arms progress front & rear diff and chain. need to find some shorter dog fighter uni's and make some axle extensions to get the wheels out past the suspension arms and the shorten the chain to the right length. Also need to make some brackets to mount the steering and front diff , would anyone have any scorpion chassie rails as these are off scorpion that Im currently restoring

Hard task there - good on you for having a go.

I will be most keen to see how you get around the front end angle issues - like suspension mounting and the front steering knuckle arrangement.

Good luck!

Cheers

Thanks for the interest guys sorry for the late reply.I also started a 150 m2 house extension this past weekend so I've been a little busy . anyway back on topic i don't think the front end geometry will be to bad at all everything seems to work rather well .what are peoples thoughts on sweep the front drive shafts back a degree or two for a little more clearance around the shock mounts

you're running into the same issues I saw.
With the trailing arms you'd actually want the dogbones or universals to go a little forward on the inside: otherwise they'll get pushed deeper into the drive cups (as far as that's even possible) when the arms tilt up. If you can get the front gearbox more forward, you'll also have more space for the steering.
For the bones you could solve it with sliders , but the steering will have to be a litttle forward of the knuckle also actually: else you get the same effect as for the dogbones. Meaning terrible bumpsteer.

You still have a hard one to tackle. Goodluck my friend.

might be useful references for you.

the axles in the second link are tobee craft hop-ups for the TLT1
I got the 12 mm extension version which will just work with the lazer ZX5R wheels, but you'd probably want a bit more offset still in the rear, unless you use a wheel with more offset.
Tobee craft makes these extensions in many different sizes

Hey Jasen, do you still need those rails?
I've got some stuff left over you can have cheap. It's not perfect, and definitely not seen its package in a looong time but the rails are reasonable straight again.
