Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

This may not be the answer but an answer. There are several tip types for set screws. McMaster-Carr shows one of a couple that could possibly work. The .075 being the tip diameter. Probably several other methods to solve the fitment issue. I can't remember if I ever ran across this years ago, not sa...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

All of the steering parts are cracked in some place. One set is original, the other looks like an early repro, the texture is rough. I've always wondered if the non-threaded portion of the ball ends ( just under the hex ) tends to add additional stress to the holes that tend to crack. At least I do...

Yep
As quiet as a whisper in the wind.
Tried it on RC10 but it always wanted to skip teeth.

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

Though it was overkill for my cars and my ability, I ran the 1985 ESC-190 Pro (P) black sticker, golden letters, 6 + 2 FET. Bought it as soon as I could afford it. Tekin ESC190.JPG It was the only ESC I ran for probably 10 years and it still runs just like new. Still in my Delta Spyder. delta5.JPG C...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

I like your choice of motor.
I kept 2 or 3 in my rotation of motors from mid 80's thru mid 90's.
I had better luck with the earlier 1985 version over the later version of the silver labeled 1987 Monster Horsepower stock motors.
Still have those motors today.

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

GreenBar0n
Have you also done the pinned diff ring mod, is that worth doing?
A couple of my cars do have pinned diff rings. I did run them in the 80's and 90's.
But I also ran CA glued rings

If I were racing today I would probably have pinned rings. It's just a little insurance.

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

There are a few reasons that any well built trans will not spin for the purported 15 seconds. Friction from the felt seals And more notably the grease in the bearings. Also excessive side play in both the idlers and out drives that can cause the gears to wobble. With the felt seals removed and all o...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE

Now with all the clearance issues aside, on to the benefits. 15% wider contact area vs the Kyosho idler gear. More face contact = more strength. The Kyosho idler gear, by all appearances, is quite soft and not very durable. Conversely a Derlin/acetal/POM gear is beautiful to machine, very durable an...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE

A portion of the interference at the ball differential was caused by the integral shoulder on the gear. Ball diff on right. It is a little difficult to see in the pic but the 2 piece design of the gear diff, on the left of the pic, gave a little more clearance. The diff cannot really be shifted side...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE

The installation of the rwracing.co.uk acetal gear did not go as smoothly as possible. But I believe it is partly due to my usage of the ball diff vs using a gear diff. The rwracing gear is much wider than the Kyosho OT85 style gear. Approximately 9.1mm for the rwracing gear vs 7.7mm for the Kyosho ...

Re: Notes on Anodizing

You caught my attention. Can you tell me any more? I don't know of Dave Geitner , has he used and compared anodized samples? I've ordered a couple of Caswell's dyes and so far haven't had any headway. Almost tried gold n. I did look at there example of gold s, it appeared too bright and too yellow. ...

Re: RC10 - A Stamp Rebuild - Chipped Idler Gear

The D-Hawk bearing adapter is not really necessary IMHO. "Should I put bearings in this kit, or are there any other improvements I could make in the gear box while it's open ?" Bearings is yes. The best investment in a 6 gear transmission is taking the burrs off the teeth of all the metal ...
