I know there are holes in the list, but we can continue to build on this as we go. It's fairly comprehensive thus far, so hopefully this can help those of you who are looking for the general information on these motors. Feel free to offer...
The Kyosho Rev series motors were intended for boats and planes. The marine motors feature water cooling while the plane motors have fan cooling. I have here a Rev300T. There was also a Rev300S. It's an interesting motor to look at as it appears to...
Evening all! I was lucky enough to score what looks to be a good working condition Novak 410-HPc esc last night! Been looking for one for a while as a backup to an excellent condition 410-M1c I scored from a great guy/seller a few months back. Photo...

The JR plug will plug into a Futaba J slot. The white wire goes to the side with the tap.
Just be sure that it isn't pinned for the early Airtronics plug.
Curious what people think about an old Novak versus say a standard Hobbywing 1080. In reality is the 1080 just a better option if vintage aesthetics do not matter and one is trying to make a reliable brushed runner?
The 1080 has programmable levels...

Honestly, I glad that quality brushed esc's are still available.
On top of the programming, I also like the small footprint of the Hobbywing. Many vintage reversing esc's are just plain huge, at least the good ones are.
Has anybody heard of or got any info on this please? I am struggling to find anything online. I took an eBay punt because it looked nice

Philippe (Kedal) who posted above kindly sent me some info a while back on this ESC, which he sourced from the French magazine Auto 8. It was included in a review of the Astute and also their Racing New column. So this makes in an 88/89 piece. It...
Hi all as above after some 27Mhz Crystals, AM and FM for some projects please if anyone has anything to sell or trade.
Also keen on any futaba S132-H servos if anyone would like to sell or trade?
I've seen a few brushed ESCs that advertise they will run 550s but the motor turn limit is usually lower than what 540s it'll run. The Traxxas XL-5 is a good example, 12T 550 vs 15T 540. Why is that? Wouldn't a torquey 550 pull more amps and strain...
Last post
First, turn limits are more like recommendations. Amp draw and cooling will determine the true limits.
Second, the armature on a 550 is longer. So each turn requires more wire than a 540. And while this creates a motor with more torque, they are...
In my collection of vintage ESCs, a couple of them have had some clunky on/off switches added in place of the original switch. Does anyone have a preferred mini switch they would recommend? It doesn't have to be period correct. Just looking for...
Last post
That does look like a good switch layout, and that's a nice chassis layout. How do you get your wires to stay routed like that? Servo tape under them?
Small zip ties. Tying wires together makes them more rigid. A little heat will also help form...
So I picked up a vintage, hand-built drag car on Ebay a while back and just got to unpacking things. Found this wicked homebrew set up. I'm assuming it's a slot car handle out back? Thought I'd share!

The guy in my profile avatar is using an early (c. 1982) radio with slot car controller.
I read some informative posts here about how good/cheap the Hobbywing 1060 brushed ESC is for a brush-motored basher. I looked around Amazon and eBay and found quite a few ESCs from random far east brands and vendors that all looked suspiciously...

Your suggestion that Hobbywing was just putting their name on a cheap, no name ESC couldn't be further from the truth.
I wasn't suggesting that it was the case, I was simply asking IF it was.
Going through my stash for the first time in a long while, I found three of these things that I used back in the day. IIRC, they supposedly bring a used NiCd pack down to a safe level for recharging after use, or leaving it on for storage so the...

3645 Hall Blvd was Tammies Hobbies old location. I was hired as they were moving to their current location. They made a pretty famous line of chargers called “Lightning Bolt”. Being just up the road I bet they were part of Tammies.
I know its probably been covered a milion times but the searching can be a pain! I don't mind links to help point me the the stuff I am asking about though.
First are my cars, esc's and motors. All 1990's stuff. I have a few radios from then too...

I just checked, they come preset at 0°.
For good brush life and limited wear, I typically run my motors conservatively at 6-8°.
For max power in a buggy, I'd run 15-20°. In a truck, probably no more than 15°. But depending on the application and...
Recently picked up a Trinity Monster Horse Power motor and wanted to check its not a fake label, I remember on this forum a few years back that there was a number of fake motor labels doing the rounds.
Everything looks legit on the motor, but...

Is Trinity stamped on the bottom of the can or no? Good to know. Thanks for posting your motor.
Epic.
If you click on the pics, you can zoom in.
I was talking about at bottom of the can, not on the endbell.
As I have been reminiscing about the British heatsink ESC era, and steadily collecting up a few Demon and Nosram esc's, I have started also looking into Laser offerings, mainly due to a build I am working on which originally pictured in late 80's...

For comparison, here's the earlier pre-FET Laser Compact (i believe it to be this model or very similar), the layout is the same as above with the relays on the opposite side of the board.
I'm not so assiduous in posting here (but I lurk alot), I need infos about the LRP Motor shown below (model, year).

This is the second LRP Super Series I've bough several week ago and destinated to my Tamiya TA01 restomod project. Ony yesterday I've found some time to open it... it's full of wire! 13x6 turn of 0,25 wire if I'm not wrong.
I bought a vintage Novak Duster ESC which is rated at 250A. I read that it can handle 14t motors at 7.2V.
What does it change if I use it at 4.8V? Can I use a lower turn motor in this configuration (let's say 12t)?
This pair just arrived through the post. Pretty rare even over in the UK, dating from 86-87. If they're good enough for Jamie Booth, then they're good enough for me 8)

I have another write up from mid-88 also, again featuring Rory and mentioning his Proking... this time it specifically states that it is a forward-only version, which again gets me thinking that this is the same unit I now have.
I just picked up a Schumacher C-car, and it came with this beauty from 1981.
Before my time I started racing in 1985, My first speed control was a Demon king 6x BUZ11 fets although I recall upgrading it to proking spec by installing the other 2...

Interesting dating and unit number comparison there if you think about it.
Mine was unit number 780 from week 40, and just 3 weeks later yours was unit number 831. So 51 units between them. I am guessing Nick wasn't making various speedo models at...
So, with the recent untimely passing of Nick Adams of Demon, I have taken a bit of an interest in his motors recently, and in particular, with a few 1986-ish builds on the go i have been focusing more on his 1986 offerings, which as it turns out...

With my 3000mah NiMh batteries, I feel like I'm pushing the temperature limits of my brushed motors. That's the main reason I don't move up to higher rated batteries. Every time I search up heat sinks, I come across a bunch of heat sinks with fans...

Without going through a full battery, I did a spot check of the temperatures. My son running the 7 cell was hottest at 223 F. Father in law was 209 F. Mine was 190 F. Hmm, BITD with NiCd I would bring a crew packs with me to do back to back runs. Of...
I used one of these for many years back in the day - probably my fave charger. Oh so simple.... I recently picked up this pair - one from the legend that is Richard Isherwood. He told me Glyn Peglar had revised the thermal sensor bulb on it to...

That's been a major hurdle I've found while going down the rabbit hole of brushed motors as it pertains to identification. Manufactures used the same cans and decals as a time and cost cutting measure I imagine which makes it hard to know what's...

I don't suppose anyone has a link to the manual for this motor? I'm interested in how check it's condition / what's replaceable in it.

Kind of. My son has taken ownership of my car. It's been waiting for renewed interest and he's enjoying it. It may be that the motor needs a refresh. I think it's probably fine but I'm not sure how to check.
I have a couple of 94145 servos I need to have repaired. Does anyone know where I might find someone who can take a look at them?

For the most part Servo's are not economical to repair. If the motor or the potentiometer are bad sourcing a replacement would be almost impossible. That said, they can be repaired. I recently repaired a airtronics 94151, I had to reverse engineer...

Completely forgot to mention the original radio that came with it, the wheel seems tight though. It turns left and right just fine, just slow to center.
Band 4 crystal installed and the factory test sticker is still on the top.
Anyone seen one of these? It from an Ultima that was raced be for my dad bought it about 20 years ago. I cannot find ANY information on it. It says Trinity on the plastic.
the Ultima was raced on some level before my dad got it. It has thin brushes.
