Cat 2000 ID

Post by Burniefloyd »

Ok, so I picked this cat up advertised as a Cat 2000 98. I guess I misread the ad because I thought it was an EC.
You can see in the pics the box is a Cat 2000 EC box with a very faded Cat 98 sticker over it. The car does have the 98 chassis but what is throwing me is the Cat 2000 SE manual.

This is only my second Schumacher, which I stumbled across looking for parts for my Cat 2000 https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=44978 and I hoped some of the extra parts might fit.

What should I look for beyond the chassis and shock bodies for a positive ID?

The Cat pictured, should be a 98. Shock bodies would be the same, the purple aluminum cartridges on Your shock are a hop-up version and not 98 specific.

Edit:
If You have the blade outdrives it´s most likely borne as a 98. What kind of outdrives does the manual show/refer to?

It does have blade outdrive and the manual shows them for the SE model also.

From what I read the SE shock bodies we plastic but the 98 went back to aluminum.

I was able to find the front hub and knuckle in the spares. There is a motor mount but I guess it goes with the 98 so I still need one of those.

Still need a belt tensioner as I don't think the 98 used one. I also need the driveshaft. There are 3 spare axles, 2 with the blades but the diffs are different and I hope to keep the originals on the other car.

The following post regarding driveshafts may be helpful.

Thanks for the link. I have all the driveshafts for the 98 but I also have a Cat 2000 that is missing 1 of the driveshafts that seems to be eluding me...

This is a rear but it's the same style in the front.

I do have a pair of bladed drives. They are different length so I am think front and back but I haven't torn the car down to check yet.
Let's move this convo to the BST so we can stay within the forum rules.
