Old motors - info wanted.
Hi,
I was planning to make a fake Losi Revolution motor for my Jrx2 build. I ordered decals and started to look for a “donor” motor.
I knew that I would not like to use any of my old motors since they are to precious to me.
So I asked some of my friends from the time and one of them donated two motors to me.
Now I’m having second thoughts since they are really nice.
I need your help to find some information. They are not in the excellent thread “Ultimate Vintage Brushed Motor Reference Guide”.
One of them is a Team Yokomo Wing4. It seems to have been hardly used at all. All I can find using Google is an Ebay add saying it is a 16 single.
And it is for 4WD off road.
The other one is based on a can I have never seen before, AYK.
The AYK Magnum 480Z. I can find someone on this forum showing a 480R. But nothing for the 480Z.
From an engineering point it looks really nice. The outside condition however is not so great, but the inside seems fine.
It is not suitable as a donor since Losi motors never came in an AKY can. Right?
Maybe I should just try to restore it.
Does anyone have any information, history or fun facts about these motors?
I like to get really nerdy about this stuff.

What's the point of a fake motor which would just be a facsimile of an old label, might as well bung one of these motors in and know it's authentic whatever it is.

Thanks for your input.threesheds wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 9:44 am What's the point of a fake motor which would just be a facsimile of an old label, might as well bung one of these motors in and know it's authentic whatever it is.
The point was to recreate something I had a long time ago. Something that I fondly remember. It was purely for the look of it.
But I´m not willing to spend the large sums of money involved in getting a genuine Losi Revolution motor.
I also wrote that I´m now having second thoughts about going the fake route since I was given two very nice motors.
I'm still curious to find out more information about them.

There is nothing cheap about vintage RC. Get yourself a gently used Revolution off eBay.

Yeah, you are correct. Nothing is cheap.top cat mike wrote: ↑Thu Jan 28, 2021 8:28 pm There is nothing cheap about vintage RC. Get yourself a gently used Revolution off eBay.
There are a couple of Losi motors on Ebay right now. I prefer the yellow label ones, because I had one of those back then (no idea which one).
They are around $100 for a nice one. Shipping to Sweden is about $30 (IF the seller ships outside the US...not all of them do),
upon arrival I have to pay $10 to the shipping company to handle the import declaration, then there is 25% taxes added to the sum of both motor AND shipping.
So roughly $100 +$30 +$10 +$32 = $172
I´ll just use the motors I have. And keep an eye open for a Revolution.
Still hoping for someone to have info about the motors, especially the AYK.

Re: Old motors - info wanted.
I have a "fake" Revolution motor in a Jrx2, purely for my own visual appreciation from a distance. IMO, I wouldn't use either of these motors as a donor. There are so many unlabeled brushed motors floating around eBay and FB, that surely you can find a cheap donor there. I know nothing about your motors, but the one looks new, and anything AYK is worth keeping.

Revolution yellow labels are about as cool as it comes, i agree. Bought a "killer" on ebay for $100 US, needed a rebuild and cut. Its double strong!!

My buddy bitd had a yellow label Revolution insane in his Goldpan and that thing ripped! It would give my 240s Turbo Optima quite the spanking!
