SG Coyote wheel options

Post by Wazza22 »

Hi all

I am building a SG Coyote 2WD runner and are hoping someone could give me a clue as to what current wheels may be suitable.

Any help appreciated,

Cheers

Ive had a few of those, but cant remember details. WHat is axle diameter size? Are they pin drive to wheels, or a small friction hub?

They are a pin drive which goes into the back of the standard wheels, looks a lot like an RC10 rear wheel. The axles are metric 5mm though.

The wheel shafts are fairly short also. I'm thinking a tamiya hex and wheel would be the most likely fit but I have not tested any

Yokomo b max 4 uses pin drive on all 4, 5mm axles. 2.2 diameter wheels, will fit modern rubber. Got to get older b max 4 and b max 4 II parts though. 4 III went to hex.

Here you go Wazza. Use Associated wheels 6805w or 6805y. The hole in the wheel is 3/16" (4.7625mm).

Ream the hole to 5mm. The axle setup is almost stock. Take a small amount of material off the ends of the 2mm crosspin.

Use a 5mm ID washer on the outside of the wheel as a small portion of axle is visible without it.

There's also plenty of clearance for the steering balljoint. I tried B4 wheels but they don't have enough offset for steering clearance.

Using these on the front might give you too much steering though if you're running it as a 2WD.

Thanks Chris, that is excellent!

I will cut the inside bead off the front wheels and then fit 4WD fronts so they are a little narrower. I used to do that to make 22mm rims out of 26mm touring car rims years ago and provided you glued the tyre on well it worked great.

Cheers,

Warren
