Re: Which Playtron model is this?
Playtron Lynx. You can tell because it has the front gearbox in there, you can see the input for the shaft drive. Classing the Lynx and Doberman as a "knock off" of the Frog is like suggesting the Associated B2 was a knock off of the Losi JRX Pro SE. The only similarities are the design c...

Re: Out for a quick romp with the Big Grizzly!
It's been years since I ran mine, even in crippled form. (Damn fragile one-way front hub inserts!) Once the nylon splines of the center gearbox's rear output stripped-out, that shelved it! But don't worry... a museum-level restoration is coming (Have most of the parts now....) when I get a factory b...

Re: Varicom Big Grizzly
From the few Big Grizzlys I have seen on-line, it appears there are different color/logo schemes. Mine looks different from the ones I've seen but mine definetly says Big Grizzly on it. There is one on eBay right now and the motor is definetly different. Mine clearly is a Kyosho motor. Hmmm. . . . ...

Re: What is the worst vintage rc ever made?
worst vintage car ive ever owned 2 words... nitro hawk I actually thought the Nitro Hawk was pretty awesome. I had one back in the day, and when I started buying vintage RCs it was at the top of my list. Sure, the Image .12 was terrible, but other than the rear shock tower mount, it was a tank! It ...

Re: What is the worst vintage rc ever made?
Don't forget the "shocks"... Yeah, they were terrible, although they looked kinda cool. :D I replaced the rears with a pair of Big Brute shocks, that a friend gave me. Having built a small track locally, he had connections with many other locals in the hobby who always had parts to spare ...

Re: What is the worst vintage rc ever made?
Yep, I agree. A friend of mine had a Clodbuster and I got the Grizzly. What a mistake that was. Absolute garbage. Oh my God...there's another person who actually owned one . With a locked rear gearbox and no one-ways in the front, the Grizzly was fantastic in the snow, however. No matter how...

Re: What is the worst vintage rc ever made?
Varicom Big Grizzly. I was very excited to get one for Christmas '86. I loved it on the cover of the 3rd issue of RCCA and I believe it was the biggest electric monster truck you could get at the time. Then, I tried to build it...what a pain to cobble together. Then I drove it...it actually ran wel...

Re: RCCA monster truck shootout May 1988
I don't see a Grizzly in there! Man, what a disappointing purchase that was... It sure was. I got mine Christmas of '87. What a POS. My father actually called the president of Varicom (I have no idea how he got the number; he's good with stuff like that :D ) and complained so much they ...
