Hello!
During one of the last year vintage events, one guy looked at my cars and he was clearly impressed by the work on the Spirit FF... We had lot of discussions since as he was in one of the clubs I was going for running my cars... One day, he...

WHile awaiting the part for other projects, I restarted to work on this Mugen Mercury...
The chassis is quite complex to measure for multiple reasons : it has everything to make it difficult :
- plans are not parallel
- length is too long for my...
Building a survivor kit from 1994 - the Mugen Athlete 1/8 buggy. Purple was the theme, car and box! This was launched in the year with the Kyosho Turbo Inferno. This buggy has its unique design language, in my opinion. Some Mugen optional parts from...

Some updates to this build - I've added some vintage Airtronics servos to put in place all the linkages and also finally found the Mugen Uno engine and EFRA-053 muffler to complete the build.
Here goes the start of my Mugen Athlete build. I have already begun a Mugen Super Sport build thread which has sat idle for quite a while. It is waiting on parts to be anodized. I am hoping to finish both of them in the near decade.
This build...

This looks to be another incredible build, I’m really looking forward to your progress! :)
Just wondering if anyone here has one of these? If so please post a few pictures. I still think this is one of the coolest looking RCs. I've never seen one in person though.

I passed on a NIB one on eBay last year and regretted since. Here is the only picture of the truck I have.
Well I finally got one at a reasonable price :D I think after the Yokomo 834b this was the car I dreamt off most as a kid , I've always loved cage cars but I never thought I'd ever find a Bulldog at a reasonable price .
This one is not fully...

It's not an entirely new idea , I spied additional bumpers in the second picture in the first post or Bormak's thread ,
Here goes a full rebuild of this pretty special Mugen Super Sport. It comes with these steel arms. I have never seen them before but I have read that the factory had built and tested with them.
I don't believe this buggy was ever run. It was...
Vintage Mugen car, not a 1/8 gas car but a 1/12 scale electric. That´s also what started Mugen company.
I think quite interestic car with monocoque chassis, spring front end and t-bar. Overall a mix of Phantom/Gemini/Schumacher lexan car, RC12i...
I have started restoring a mugen bulldog I recently picked up mainly as I used to race one back in the 80's at St Ives show ground and hoping to make this one a runner for the next vintage meet in Castle hill.
With 3 Mugen Bulldog builds on the go I thought i'd try and post some pics and idea's to help anyone else that wants to make some simple yet effective mods to their car/s.
While I dont claim to have 'invented' any of these idea's as such I have...

Love the meaty look of these Bulldogs! Does anyone know what the main differences between the I and II are apart from the cage?
Today Ill start on this old 4wds Bulldog.
Will do an fullcarbon version.
One in this forum have make an nice catbon chassis but Ill go one step more, will do the both chassis plates allso out of carbon.

Jerzi - So what happened to this project? Did you do this because you Race your Mugen Bulldog or is it just a Shelf Queen? Just curious... Thanks and your Carbon parts look Great! :D
I picked this up for $9.99 from a seller in France because I liked the unusual lines and kind of brutish look, I also think it would look great with a wing added...it was listed on eBay as a Frewer Mercury body. Does anybody know anything about this...

Thanks Alex, I think you nailed it. Glad it's an aftermarket body because it certainly looks better than the original Mugen Mercury body (IMHO anyway)!
Hello All, Does anyone know what differences there were between the Mugen Bulldog and the Bulldog II. That is besides the obvious change from the roll cage to the lexan body?

Really that is it? I hoped that there was more than just those few parts that changed.
This was one of the reasons why I bought the Bulldog in 1985, never has an oil leak!!
Sadly, it does not really work too well except on road, bashing.....

I'm still trying to figure out why we never have seen rotary shocks. In our game, it would be a way to keep the weight low in the chassis and could be very tiny with no oil volume vs shaft volume issues.
I'm currently reviving my dad's bulldog but do not have instructions. I'm not r/c lingo savvy so bear with me. My issue is with the gear assembly that is directly driven by the electric motor. The assembly has threaded nuts on both sides that are...

Hi mate,
Usually in a 4wd - depending on the motor, 1 to 2 feet is enough slip - probably a bit to much. Again it depends on the motor.
If you are using the standard 540 motor (silver can), then a brief squawk sound from the transmission slipping...
Hey all, I'm new here on the forum.. but not R/C. I was big into it in the mid 80's/early 90's and now after 20 years have got the bug again you could say. I had no idea there was a vintage R/C following until recently, so I dusted off the old...
Hi guys, ivegot a bulldog II that i need a front bumper for, anyone got one laying around? Ill post some pics soon, other than the missing bumper and dry rotted tires its in good shape!

This Bulldog has been a real work in progress but I finaly have it where I am happy.
The diff's have been modded, a custom steering rack has been added, ball raced belt tensioners, universal drive shafts up front, Marui chrome dog bones in the rear,...

Thanks for the compliments guys. Believe it or not the Bulldog is actualy very nice to drive when set up correctly.
Im almost prepared to say that they could be as good as if not better than a Cat of the same period.
Mugen bulldog probably was one of the most sloppily made cars from Mugen. I got my Bulldog in 1985 with the hope that the AWDS would do magic, dead wrong!! However, I did see a heavily modified Bulldog in a shop in Hong Kong as an on-road buggy...

Good job Tiger~
But I think the wheel is a little bit small.
Just thought I would post up some pics of a project I finsished off last weekend. There is a bit of a story to this one - so please be patient!!
Way back in the 80's Michael Geddes (my now great mate), was national champion and a very,...

Well done Darren....wonderful gesture to an old foe. I remember watching the Sydney 1989 world titles video and seeing the Michael Geddes interview. Hope it was not you 'feeling' him up halfway through that interview.
Most of you here have seen Thomas's (Bugle) B34 racer. This car realy is very well designed and built by Thomas and his machining skills are the best Ive seen anybody apply to the vintage R/C scene here in Australia.
Ive been good friends with...

Not using four wheel steer just the front via a home made brass steering rack which slides back and forth through the chassis housing.
I guess this is one of those that you either love or hate. The bulldog was my second R/C car after the super champ so I have always liked it. I found this chassis on ebay awhile back and it turned out to be in really good shape. Then I ran across...

I hope the chrome doesn't chip off when you run it?
Most of you who have owned a Mugen bulldog before may not disagree that the Mugen bulldog steering was a terrible design. I remember most people lock out the rear steering.
Anyone know how to meaningful modify the front steering so that it works...
I would really like to run my Bulldog this weekend at our vintage get together but I am missing a front drive shaft, does anyone know of one that would fit from a different car.I tried Ultima but it was too short. If worst comes to worst Ill lengthen...

Thanks guys,I eventually found one that fits in a ebay junk gas car that blew both diffs the first time it was run.I think it was smartech brand.Atleast I finally got to use something from it.Please bring your stash still Gary as this one is a bit...
I found the Mugen bulldog has terrible steering.
The original 4wds was a terrible idea with tons of oversteer and the plastic was too sloppy and resulted in no accuracy even to run straight. That was my memory in 1985. Back then I locked...

You did a great job on it I've been using my mill but found i need diamond flutes to cut it . my carbide bits don't last long cutting any thing with glass or carbon in it. :D
Mugen bulldog's differentials are not known to be smooth. There was a design flaw. There was no pressure washer or any spring in the design, the only 'give' in the system was the long 3mm screw, which hardly give at all, which makes proper...

That is amazing. My first RC car was the Mugen Bulldog, and I remember how difficult those diffs were. I messed them up pretty bad because at the time, I didn't know how to adjust them. But eventually, I made the holes larger where the balls sat and...
got a change to get one of these any idea what they could be worth, its new with unpainted body with box as shown 8)

To most collectors - Not alot more than what he is asking.........
You would have to really want to own them to pay - I think you would be lucky to turn them around for a profit - especially as they dont seem to be NIB.....
Hi guys, here's some pics of a car I have been trying to find the time to work on. I picked up this Bulldog in a trade with an old racer who had it collecting dust in his shed for many years. Apparently it hasn't been run and aside from a section at...

I guess you have all seen the bulldog in the 'old car run' section of the time-tunnel site already?
I came across this, and with the low price it stands at, I kinda would like to use it in an electric conversion.
Can aybody identify which Mugen buggy I'm looking at and are parts still easy to get?
Edit: and wheels that fit!
Last post
well if current wheels don't fit, I 'm gonna do the smart thing and leave it where it is even the price is crazy low.
There are a couple used 1/8 gas buggies in the 2nd hand corner of the LHS I'll take a closer look at next time.
A 1/10 would be...
