Just wondering if anyone else is picking up nice RS rigs when they run across them. Kinda junk, and mostly kinda silly, but they still have that nostalgia about them. I only pick them up when in box, and usually barely used. I know exactly why they...

My Radio Shack collection is pretty deep. It all started with the Golden Arrow in the pic. I traded some questionable stuff  when I was 12yo . It now has modern electronics and a few parts from a Traxxas Cat. So far I have 4 of them. Then...
This is a toy grade cross hobby grade r/c car from Ban Dai .
Looks to be a slightly modded Hot Shot but with twin shocks at each end but it's really totally different. Battery is mounted long ways up the chassis. Twin diffs that is shaft driven by...

I bought one last year just weeks before a big vintage race. Worked on it like a devil to get proper electronics in, bearings throuhout, replacement of the broken body, and a simplified shock setup with oil-filled units.
It was actually great fun...
I think most of us like me played with Tyco or Nikko RC cars as kids which bridged into bigger and better things as we grew up. So I got to thinking about those RCs and wondered would it be possible to upgrade these to better equipment? They would...

There's a guy on RCGROUPS Forum called Nowinaminuite who had done a few and there's no doubt you can dramatically improve them , there's increasing interest in the vintage RTR cars with some fetching good money on eBay , I'd suggest that if you find...
Decided to play around with a Nikko Dictator. To be fair, this is a radio shack version but mostly compatible. I have a proper Nikko coming for the final build. It cost me $35 shipped, so I can't complain! The car isn't too far from hobby grade...

I have sold a few sets but they were primarily just something I wanted. If interested you can send a message for details. We cut all of our parts to order so it’s a pretty quick turnaround
Now firstly I'm not knocking the Nikko Frame buggy , they are warmly remembered and at the high end of non hobby grade cars (hate the hobby grade tag but everybody understands it).
The why is more to do with this example. The wings missing, the nerf...

The nerf bars look great ! The main thing i don't care for with 3D printed parts is the layer lines/finished texture. Just looking at your nerf bars, no one would guess they were printed.
It's true that most printed parts have the distinctive...
G'day all,
I'm glad to finally find a decently sized forum dedicated to vintage R/C, and plenty of mention of my favorite: Taiyo R/C (Japan), Tyco RC (US), Metro RC (Australia)!
Over the last 18 months lockdown here in Australia, I bought myself a...

So my latest acquisition was a SUPER FIGHT F1 (Taiyo), not the dual motor version unfortunately just single, however it's aesthetically MINT. Only problem? Seems like battery corrosion damage. Turn it on, and the motor will blip for half a second...
Sometimes there's that toy grade RC that has some potential to be just fun enough, or maybe made more fun. With some surplus hobby grade spare parts and a little fabrication, it can get new life as a basher. Anyone care to post a project?
I was given this Nikko F10 Rhino in 1987, one outing a rear suspension was broken (I was a small child) and never repaired, put into storage only for me to dig it out a few days ago.
I have a 4 year old son now and I've love to see...

Nice job restoring that car. Man, that is some bumper. That bumper is so big, it looks like it almost protects the rear too!
Whilst clearing the loft I found this Rhino F10 which was given to me back in 1987.
Unfortunately, one of the rear dampers got broken and it was put into storage. I'd love to get it going again, I will create another thread to seek spares or...
This is a mega-thread for general discussion of all the Nikko products made.
I will start the discussion with a question. TamiyaDan referenced a Nikko car which competed in the 89 Worlds and placed 50th. I am sure we all have the same...

Hello,
I have done some additionnal searches and found interesting materials.
In the issue from november 1989 from the magazine Super Machine, there is a color picture (number 15) of this Nikko Brat I think.
i had this nikko dictator sitting in a box for a while, and started restoring it to its former glory!
i like strange rc cars and with the dual motor set-up this old nikko has, it fits right into my collection and interests!
i watched clips...

I know this is an old thread but just wanted to say nice work . I have a few Nikko Dictators and Nikko F10 Thunderbolts \ F10 Rhinos.
I know some of you guys have converted old Nikko or radio shack Rc cars to hobby grade electronics. What did you use to do so?
I have these that I would love to make run again.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys. I’m definitely not looking for more speed as the suspension would never be able to cope with the extra power anyway, but i thought it would be fun to have the running again and let my son run them.
I came across a Radio Shack Golden Arrow at the Hershey auto swap meet for $10 without a controller. Does this thing have any value without the remote? Basically, I'm debating throwing it on ebay or keeping it and modding it with real radio gear,...

I have one myself that I lost the remote to over the years . If it don't sell on eBay , one of these days I'll upgrade it . Been saying that for years
Does anybody know anything about these things?..nice scale looks..Mint still in box Jeep Renegade.
I thinks it's late 70's to mid 80's era. Has gear shift switch at the rear...

Just for future reference, I have a little history summary of this model here:
So my very first car was a Monogram Lightning way back in Christmas of 1985. So ever since I got back into RC I was hoping to find one and with some luck I found 2 beaters but one was red just like the one I had so I purchased both with the idea of...

I think so, too...all 4 tires have four rows of spikes, but on that one right rear tire, the outside 2 rows have wider spikes than the other 3 tires. Weird...funny how you could end up with...
Here's something I bet nobody's seen before (unless you're in your 40's or older and grew up in Japan): Buggy Boy Wheelie, from K.K. Matsushiro Japan. I was over at the parents' house tonight and was digging around on the top shelf in my old bedroom...

You've seen that image, The many positions of kama sutra ? Maybe I'll have to make an image showing The many positions of Buggy Boy . His shoulders are quite flexible, I think he's even double-jointed!
I have been busy searching for a match for the UP works gold U-joints for my Nikko Brat.
I found a match they are from the Tamiya Top Force.
The only thing is that the dog bone part is too long.
I was wondering if there are similar U-joints that...

Hello I am new here.
I have a rebuild Nikko Dandy Dash and a almost complete Nikko Brat with a UP240 Goldtop motor.

Thanks for the offers but I found the pin.
Now I want to focus on finding aftermarket U-joints.
One thing I like in this brand (Nikko) is the hard detailed body shell, and realistic look :)

Nikko branded GP-15 closest to look at is the Tamiya FS-15 I have seen so far, wish they were all as reliable, I left it in storage 2 years new fuel charged battery, didn't even need tuning.
Hi Guys,
A while ago I was trying to figure out what a certain old school car I had was. It turned out to be the Nikko Mascot. Well, the dish wheels and spiked tires I had just gotten for my B4.1 inspired me to do a body in the style of the old...

See if you can unscrew the steering gimble stick and spin in round. This is how I used to reverse the old Acoms radio back in the day.
Works for older futaba attack radios as well
The Tyco's are what I started out with when I was a kid. I had a Tyco Blaster but I really wanted the Tyco Bandit but I never did get one until a couple years ago :D I've since sold them but it was cool to finally own and run them. They were pretty...
