I just took off the pinion gear and spun the tires. The only real noise comes from the spur gear I think as it only hooks up and bites about half the time.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the balls were put back in the spur gear. If I hold the wheels and try to turn the spur gear it will turn 3 clicks either way quite easily (if that makes sense) and then it gets harder to turn.
