Re: NIMH battery problem - half of cells warm, low power
Extra initial expense. Long run, they cost a lot less, because after 30 cycles, you aren't worried about where you should take them to dispose of them properly. ;) Very true! I'm sure the brushless systems in my b4.1 and boomerang would really appreciate the upgrade too :) Probably not until next s...

Re: NIMH battery problem - half of cells warm, low power
NiMh are notoriously fickle and fragile. They like to be used (charged and discharged) regularly. They hate to sit stagnant for long periods of time. They lose capacity, power and everything else very easily. Sometimes they need to be "woken up" to perform well, sometimes they are just fl...

NIMH battery problem - half of cells warm, low power
Hi Guys, I have a 5000mah duratrax nimh stick that has been having some problems. It didn't seem like it was holding a charge anymore, but went through a full charging cycle at 4.5 amps yesterday. Today when I ran it, it didn't seem to be putting out the power that it should have been. I stopped aft...

Re: Modern day Nikko Mascot (or B4.1 in disguise)
Thanks guys
Oh yeah it definitely runs a LOT better....it actually ran good enough to cause one of the rear wheel ball cups to crack in half. That was after a series of end over end flips. Simple fix though. Wish I would have had this one back in the day!

Modern day Nikko Mascot (or B4.1 in disguise)
Hi Guys, A while ago I was trying to figure out what a certain old school car I had was. It turned out to be the Nikko Mascot. Well, the dish wheels and spiked tires I had just gotten for my B4.1 inspired me to do a body in the style of the old school "toy" that I would charge overnight, a...

Re: Brushless in a Vintage Gold Pan
Hi Guys, Sorry to revive this old thread, but I'm looking for definitive info on the absolute top limits on a brushless motor vs the vintage 6 gear with a NIMH pack. I'd like to know the top motor model (3000, 3300, etc) and turn equivalent of what will NOT cause the idler gears to detonate. I actua...

Re: B4.1 trying to look vintage
I have some schumacher tires ordered for the rear (full spike) to give it even a little more of a vintage look, too. I really want to do a protech body the same way. That will probably not happen until after summer though.

Re: Medium/hard rear SPIKED tires for b4.1
that tire you have listed is a truck tire. so it's 2.2" but wide and tall, and would look a little funny on a buggy. all the tire suggestions so far didn't look too bad pricewise, including the overseas sellers too......I'd say they would be your best bet...... yeah, I read it was a truck tire...

Re: Medium/hard rear SPIKED tires for b4.1
what kind of surface are you running on? Hard packed dirt, loose dirt, patchy grass... basically rough "wooded" terrain. I have found these: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDT92&P=7 Would most 2.2" fit? A lot of specs I see don't list the tire width, just d...

Re: Medium/hard rear SPIKED tires for b4.1
Thanks, guys! I'm losing so much energy due to the stock/tiny spiked tires slipping. I'll be really curious to see how this thing performs with the spiked tires

Medium/hard rear SPIKED tires for b4.1
Hey guys...I'm in need of some old school medium to hard spiked rear tires for my brushless b4.1. I've casually looked on ebay and at tower, but nothing really obvious stood out. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not meaning vintage, I just mean old school off road heavy spikes like some of the ...

Re: Motor power question for vintage runner
http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=53930 The turn limit for the ESC is 23 turns, so that motors is within the limits but it's probably right at the limit of a motor that you'd want to use. It would be considerably hotter than any of the closed-endbell motors I listed above. I like...

Re: Motor power question for vintage runner
the esc should be able the handle all three honestly. I ran a sport tuned 540 in my Thundershot reissue for years and it was fine. I would turn my choice to which is still available and not. Don't want to burn up a perfectly good vintage motor just fooling around with the car. You can buy the tamiy...

Re: Motor power question for vintage runner
OK, found them. The dyno readings for the brand new Mabuchi motors were putting out 11,300 RPM at 20 amps (and 285 'something' power numbers, he doesn't say what). When the motors were broken in by running them in water, cleaned, lubed, and comm drops applied, the readings went up to 312/12,400. By...

Motor power question for vintage runner
Hi Guys, I have 3 motors to choose from to put in a "frankenstein" vintage runner: 1. tamiya rs-540sh (screw holes line up, pinion meshes, don't see why it wouldn't work) 2. Trinity "monster horsepower", red end on it, also says "1985 world champions" on it 3. stock blu...
