Re: So we moved.... now the dramas begin!
Sorry to hear that. I know where you're coming from. I moved twice in the last 6 years and its no picnic. I found RC stuff in the second move that I'd lost in the first move. Go figure. Still, very irritating. Nothing sucks more than having to go buy something that you KNOW you have somewhere, but c...

At least they're RED legos.

Re: Tamiya obsession cools
I still love Tamiya kits, at least the old ones and the re-releases. They've honestly "given" me more in life than any other product I've ever purchased. There's the argument that their variety, flaws and quirkiness give them "soul" although, I prefer to think of it as character....

Re: Tamiya obsession cools
Interesting stuff. I remember when the DF01 buggies came out with those pliable two-piece arms. I thought that maybe Tamiya had begun to catch on to just how rock hard and brittle-feeling the Hot Shot cars' arms were. Of course I suppose they started making changes by using that blue nylon for the T...

Re: Tamiya obsession cools
Well put bully. I was always impressed with molding precision that Tamiya's had (not a suprise considering the quality of their plastic model kits). Its just now, I see that "engineering" ABS doesn't have near the strength or longevity that Nylon 6/6 or glass reinforced plastics do. I also...

Re: I'd love a Clodbuster one day.....
Yep, make that day now. Clods are great fun, stock or modded. Home built or bought. Endless possibilities. But as others have cautioned, they begin to multiply when you're not looking.

Re: Egress front shock mounting
That was some great informative reading. I am amazed at the work in those videos. How could slotless not catch on? (if better developed over time, anyway). My god, that looks great! It literally addresses the two main points that kept me out of slot cars, 1. The cars don't change lanes (unless a kid...

Re: Tamiya obsession cools
Thanks for the inspiring words. The situation kinda reminded of a guy I knew who claimed the state he lived in was the best and he'd always live there. I asked if he'd ever left the state and he said no. So, I asked, if he'd never left the state to experience any of the other states, how could he kn...

Tamiya obsession cools
I've been a diehard Tamiya fan since the early 80's and now in the past few years, I've found that brand-obsession cooling off so to speak. I still love the Tamiya kit building experience, the boxart, the personality of their older models but I've certainly gained respect for other makes now. I hate...

Re: Egress front shock mounting
So, veering off topic a bit since your knowledge goes back a ways...would you care to draw any parallels between the RC hobby (or perhaps the racing end of it) and the earlier slot car craze? I remember RCCA constantly comparing the two hobbies and (speaking ominously) about how "we" don't...

Re: Egress front shock mounting
I remember that short Hi Cap tower. I think it was for adapting Hi Caps to the Avante and Vanquish. Basically, I think I'm retracing your footsteps Dan. I'm trying to get the front end to bottom out before the shocks run out of travel to save the control arm mounts molded into the front gearboxes. I...

Re: Egress front shock mounting
Lobos and nikko turbo panther nikko black fox, dictators, night stalkers...I remember seeing all those at Kay Bee toys back in the day. My first off roader was a Nikko Mosquito, precursor to the Lobo2. That's awesome that some of those toy grade cars saw track time. Beautiful Intruder and Brat BTW. ...

Re: Egress front shock mounting
You're completely right. Being a mechanic and fascinated with design and function means I all to often overlook the human element. Practice makes perfect. A good driver can make a mediocre car seem great but a mediocre driver does not become a great driver simply behind the stick of a great car. &qu...

Kyosho newb question
My Kyosho knowledge aside from the monster trucks is severely lacking. Having built the re-re Scorpion and Optima, I'm very impressed. Far different from my plastic Tamiyas. Anyway, can someone elaborate on the performance differences between the original rear motor Optima series and the later Optim...
