Just finished initial calibration of the probe system tonight, so progress.
I have to get a CMM inspection on my setting ring to verify it's within calibration, and then I can do final probe cal.
Still have the other jobs in the pipeline, since one is waiting on the probe as well.

Re: Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and parts
Long time no update. I just recently procured a probing system for the mill, so that's being wired in and calibrated. That allows me to avoid the fixturing nightmares that were giving me the heebie jeebies and head scratchers before, and opens up the possibility to use the existing programs from the...

30 minute machining video
I machined a part for my tube frame car project (The goes-way-too-f#$king-fast-mobile) on Halloween, and got the itch to capture the procces in 4K video. This was all taken with a Moto Z Force in HDR UHD video mode. Not that it really needed it, but I could, so I did. There ended up being 12Gi...

Re: Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and parts
Did a bit more CAM work last night, toolpaths for the bearing bores are now finished in HSM.
I still need to get the chamfer mill profiles sorted out, as well as the dowel holes and mounting screw holes.
No guessing on timeframe, because I don't want to miss another deadline.

Re: Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and parts
Way wipers were replaced on Y axis earlier in the week. I made a waterpump adapter for another client on Saturday. That was the first real test of HSM doing something that wasn't decorative, and there were no hicoughs or sneezes on the program side. New job starts Monday, 8:00-17:00 instead of 14:00...

Re: Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and parts
Well, missed deadline again. I did refill the chiller loop, so that's all taken care of. Ordered a 384K memory expansion board for the machine last week, it came in Wednesday and I installed it after work. Feels good to have free space to fill with programs. I ordered way cover wiper material...

Re: Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and parts
I ended up chasing an entire flock of geese. The normal "Real Life" stuff got in the way. Noticed the machine was out of tram, and out of level. Floor settling/machine settling/having a building 40 feet from a crossfit location. I swear, they must drop 300# weights. The entire floor...

Re: Email and Anti Google alternatives?
I have a few business email accounts through my web host, it's $5 a month for the hosting, billed biennially.
I've been with them (Site5) for 10 years this september, and they've been reliable the whole time.

Re: Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and part
Well, had a little time yesterday, so one step closer to fixture being finished. http://zarnochwf1.com/gallery2/d/9607-1/IMG_20161230_010540915_HDR.jpg The next step is to get the models for the fixture and case mated together, and generate some toolpaths to punch holes for the 4-40's, locating dowe...

Re: Discussion about possible aluminum transmission and part
I think I have 4 in there, Tower has them as 2 packs.
Ended up being cheaper than VXB/McMaster to just get the bearings from Tower.
Everything else look ok?
EDIT:
Ordered the whole shebang, should be in next week, except the backordered pinion shaft.

Re: Where Do You Charge Your Lipos ?
I have one of those monster hobbyking 1.6AH 4S pack for a heavy octo. It's charged in a batt-bag on the tile floor if it's at my place, or in the batt-bag on cement if it's at my friends place. Needless to say, I don't charge that thing unattended... We did have a 3S pack guppy due to over discharge...
