Re: Schumacher CAT XL 2WD (T402) for vintage racing
This has been a great read. I have raced two 2wd CAT XL's over the past 6 years or so - initially one built from original parts and latterly a re-re. I've had some great events with both cars, on occasion far exceeding my normal level. Those performances have been enough to encourage 2 or ...

Re: SWB v XL - Oct '87
It is very strange how our brains work sometimes. It is hard to imagine someone doing all of the work to add a second servo when all they needed was to stiffen the crashback system. It just seems that anyone smart enough to rig dual servos would have noticed the crashback system moving and in...

Re: XL/XLS CAT or Original CAT SWB
Hi Bismuth, Great to see another SWB - would be great to build it back up as it was originally. As others have said the transmission parts for the re-release appear identical to the originals. That said, if you want to keep it original, I probably have some original integrator parts in a box - I'll ...

Re: XLS Re-re: body/undertray too narrow for battery
The original was always a tight fit for a standard Nicad pack and most nimh or lipo packs are slightly larger, so like various Tamiya re-re's, they don't quite fit. It's good that they've included a shorty holder to ensure they can be used with modern batteries.

Re: XLS Rerelease
Do we know if the fiberglass parts are identical to the original car? Earlier this year I had talked to Jake about maybe making some Iridium chassis sets for this and he mentioned that he already had original parts drawn up. If they were the same it would make it a lot easier. The only difference I...

Nice builds everyone, thanks for the votes, and congratulations to Groomi. That thing looks pretty slick. Bet it's fun spin some laps with as well. Mark Sure is fun to race it, although that geared transmission is very draggy due to the huge bearings, so it's not very fast! https://scontent-lhr3-1....

SCHUMACHER 'TOP SPEC' TOPCAT Entered into the 2016 Iconic RC Revival - finishing 5th in the A-Final. Re: ProCat - Restoring to Race
Looks like quite a clean car to start with - should be a good build.
I had some front wishbones cut out like that in a parts lot I bought a while ago. I assume it was a period thing people did to save weight and extend run time, along with drilling holes in just about everything...
Enjoy the build!

Re: ProCat - Restoring to Race
Hi, that's an interesting Procat you have there. The alloy transmission housings were made by a few companies. MMS, Wasp and a couple of others. I'm not sure which one yours is, but I've not seen one with a cut-out at the front like that before, so it may be one of the less common ones - or even a h...

Re: Back in Time - XLS For Vintage Racing
Well we had the Iconic RC Revival event last weekend and as always it was a great event. A noticeable difference this year was how much better race prepared everyones cars were. There were far fewer mechanical issues and many of the cars were very well set up indeed. Competition in the 84-88 4wd cla...
