I have a bit of bad news. I tried to replace the FETs today, it seemed to work for a few seconds but then smoked out . I think it's safe to say we've done as much as we can.

Hi again, I have been to a local electronics shop called "Jaycar Electronics". It's staff were quite helpful and have pointed out (as you have already said) that it is a Motorolla FET, but they do not have the product listed in there data base. I have a list of the FETs they carry. Hopeful...

Hi urban hype, My solder iron looks as if it is rated as 40w unit. My equipment may not be trade duty, but I don't think it's poor quality either. I think the problem is my lack of knowledge and skill/technique in this area. I can only learn by my own trial and error. I never did any electronics kit...

Don't give up on Tamiya Club, I certainly haven't. It's a great site jam packed with top people contributing to our wonderful hobby! As for trolls, they will eventually turn up on any Internet forum so it's best to just ignore those sad losers. What are your Tamiya Club names?

I can see some numbers on the side of one of the FETs , so it looks promising. This may take me a few weeks to do, but I think I will give it a go.

As somebody that has travelled a similar path to yours, my heart goes out to your and your family. I know advise is not always needed or wanted but stay strong and give your kids lots of cuddles and make sure Mum always feels the love of family. Kids are great healers.
