Re: Finally drove an RC car for the first time in 25+ years

Yes, I already have a new 3-wire servo waiting in the wings, a JX Servo PDI-1171MG. Which is not the 1181MG that is recommended everywhere. From what I can tell the only difference is the 1171 uses a standard 25t spline output and not whatever the fine tooth spline the 1181 and original WLtoys servo...

Finally drove an RC car again for the first time in 25+ years

So yesterday was it. After cashing out of the hobby back in the early 90's, I got back into it 8-9 years ago, buying parts and kits and building and fixing stuff, exactly what I enjoy about the hobby. But not one of my near-30 cars was/is a 100% runner. Seeing a deal online a few weeks ago, I bought...

Do old radios and receivers hold any value to anyone?

Note, I'm not asking how much something may be worth, I know that's verboten. The title is probably poorly worded. I'm just wondering if there's folks who still like to use old long-antenna crystal-based radios for nostalgia's sake? Personally can't see any reason why anyone would want to considerin...

Re: Anyone Else Collecting Radio Shack Rigs?

I wish I had loved the Radio Shack rc Jeep I got for Christmas when I was a kid more than I did. :(

Re: So what did you get in the post today ???

This week brought an aluminum upper deck and two spare LiPo batteries for my 144001, a turnbuckle and ball diff set for my Sand Viper, some bulk 4-40 hardware (I'll never buy expensive little bags of screws ever again!), and an ISDT 608AC charger.

Re: Anyone make 'tall' 1:12 mounted foams nowadays?

Thanks. I ended up getting some more modern Xceed mounted foams (48mm I think) and will just deal with adjusting the ride height. It's actually not as far off as I thought it would be.

Re: Original unmolested Laser ZX 1991?

I had an original Lazer ZX just like this way back when. I didn't run it much, not sure why. I had black HPI five-spokes and Schumacher mini-pins on mine along with a red and white Japanese-ish paint scheme on the body. It looked pretty cool if I do say so myself. :) One thing I did was convert the ...

Re: So what did you get in the post today ???

I've been on such a spending spree lately unfortunately... A set of sealed bearings, two motor mounts, a set of metal gears and a 3-wire steering servo for my WLToys 144001. A set of 3-hole 1/12 scale foam wheels/tires and some random diff parts for the RC12LW I'm trying to resurrect. An inexpensive...

Nicely done. The scale and proportions look very good.

Re: Built for the Shelf Versus built to Run

I like to build and fix these things way more than I like to drive them so I have nearly 30 cars in various states of completeness. I build to build, not to have something in the end to show off on a shelf. I have seen some damn nice collections out there though. That said, in the spirit of the thre...

Re: RPM Gearbox Housing

- When using the 0 degree blocks as instructed, the car has a little more rear toe-in than it did stock, maybe a full degree. It's very noticeable and not really wanted. Not sure what the deal is with that. the toe in is in the bandit and slash arms, the traxxas trans case is 0*. You would use the ...

RPM Gearbox Housing

So my new Bandit XL-5/VXL hybrid is basically done, and since I can't leave well enough alone, I had to mess with it already. :) Being a longtime fan of RPM products, I picked up one of their gearbox housings in black. It looks cool, it fits together well like RPM stuff usually does, and it has an a...
