Re: Mugen Athlete 1/8 Build
The 3 differentials come pre-built and have machined aluminum housings. Front and rear gearboxes are identical. The differentials have planetary gears rather than the ubiquitous bevel type, and overall achieve a narrower profile. All gears are metal from factory. I installed Athlete Team edition die...

Re: Mugen Athlete 1/8 Build
The shocks of the Mugen Athlete come almost fully assembled - just add oil and springs. They are also anodized in the same purple. Both front and rear ends here completed. Front drive shafts are universals as standard. Rear wing mounts are sturdily attached; the rear wing would later be secured, rat...

Re: Mugen Athlete 1/8 Build
4WD drive train in place. Unlike the other 1/8 buggies at the time, the Mugen Athlete opted for a straight line configuration of the center drive shafts, presumably for lowering transmission drag/losses, but sacrificing a little the position of the engine to be further away from the chassis centerli...

Re: Mugen Athlete 1/8 Build
Such a cool car, and excellent build. Great upgrades you have found. Finding parts for this car is very difficult. Any suggestions on places to search for parts? Thanks. Thanks! I did find some parts from the online shop rcshop.net. Send them an email first to confirm parts availability. But I was ...

Kyosho Lazer ZX-S Evolution
Hi all, recently I was fortunate to acquire a ZX-S Evo that started build a little but stopped. Except for 2 bags all others had been opened. It made good sense then to build the car and check what could be missing. Plus I have always wanted to build this rare car. The car had the front end assemble...

Re: Kyosho Lazer ZX-S Evolution
The motor plate / rear upper carbon plate bulkheads are rather unique. Although fiddly to put together the end result is rather special in my opinion. It's very open though with all pulleys exposed. Here it is with the Hyper Clutch slipper and one-way pulley in place. I found out I'm missing one spa...

Re: Kyosho Lazer ZX-S Evolution
With the 4wd drivetrain in place the Lazer lineage is evident - 2 belt system over the midship motor. The Evo comes with a motor spacer/heatsink. The ZX-S had a plate spacer like that on the Turbo Optima.

Re: Kyosho Lazer ZX-S Evolution
I installed the suspension arms next. The lower arms have the same shape as the ZXR but appears to be a harder plastic. Front C hubs, steering knuckles, rear hub carriers are changed from the ZX-S. The shock towers are carbon vs the FRP ones on the ZX-S. I added Yokomo wheel adapters. There's defini...

Re: Kyosho Lazer ZX-S Evolution
The steering rack, top deck, battery posts and retaining plates go on next. The Evo uses the steering rack from the PureTen series, 39655. 20221120_153220.jpg The Evo comes with Kyosho's Twin Cap Pro dampers. These were also for example found on the Ultima RB-R 2WD buggy. Instead of fitting them, I ...

Re: Kyosho Lazer ZX-S Evolution
The Kyosho orange-yellow springs arrived to match the Kyosho hardened alloy rear hub (shared with the Ultima RB Type R).
The rolling chassis is almost completed, I'm still waiting on some plastic parts for the rear sway bar.

Re: Kyosho Lazer ZX-S Evolution
Some updates - Option House W5632 and W5642 mini block tyres were mounted to kit wheels; Kyosho silver springs now instead.
