Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
I took the Bandit out racing again this past Friday and this time nothing broke! I was able to run the car the entire night in the mod 2wd class and it drove really well. I managed to record the main by strapping a phone to my head - I'm sure I looked silly but the video came out great! EfJy_aDSuf0...

Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
Yeah, one thing I'm learning from this build is as much as buggy design has changed over the last 30 years, there really are just a few basics that if you get right, you'll have a pretty competitive buggy. As for the gear diff, my super secret setup is actually incredibly dumb in how simple it is. T...

Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
5/3/2024 Race Update Last night I had this car out at Pit Stop hobbies for another Friday night race program. The car was much faster this week with the changes I had made. I beat my fast lap by 0.7s and I ran a 15/8:15 in the main compared to the 14/8:33 last week. Significant improvement. There we...

Re: Traxxas Bandit indoor clay race build
Great built! I love the antenna tube - really adds to the old school feel. I want to add one to my bandit even though I don't need it at all. lol

Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
Been running and tweaking this car for the last few weeks, figured its time for an update. First, I decided I was done with the hodge-podge mix of colors on the printed parts. I bought a roll of matte black PLA and reprinted just about everything. It looks great now with the all black color scheme! ...

Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
Files have been released for a few weeks now - https://www.printables.com/model/890186-nickcnc-mid-motor-conversion-for-traxxas-bandit-ru Warning, though, the transmission cases have a bit of a design flaw that causes melted internals and stripped gears. I fixed the issue but haven't yet updated the...

Re: Ball diff vs. Gear diff.
Nothing is faster than a ball diff on dirt. In my testing I found ball diffs stay noticeably freer under load than gear diffs. You can feel this for yourself - hold a diff with an outdrive in each hand. Twist them to feel how much resistance the diff has. Next, press the main gear against a hard sol...

Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
Very cool project. Planning on building a racing Rustler based off of your design. Do you think that the chassis needs any wheelbase changes or should it just be good to go wheelbase-wise? Thanks! Sorry the delay, I'm not too active on these forums anymore. The stock Rustler and Bandit both use the...

Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
I'm active on other places around the web, but the only place I talk about my design nowadays in on my youtube channel. And obviously I do still poke in here from time to time but that's just because there's an insane amount of knowledge here and the builds are some of the best around.

Re: Mid Motor Rustler - V2
Thanks for the kind words! Since I'm here I guess I can give a small update. I've decided to go super modern and take inspiration from the B7 and more recently the new 22x. Last fall I designed a 5 gear transmission to use indoor on carpet and ran that all winter. I had some issues with other parts ...
