Re: Vintage Nylon Parts Durability
Looked in depth at this a while ago , warm water is faster 4-6 hours , cold water 24 hours , best not to boil as they may warp , pretty much all nylons are the same in this respect , the thicker the part the longer you soak as it takes time to fully penetrate , only instance where it won't help is i...

Re: Vintage Nylon Parts Durability
Don't boil them but warmer water is better. And they need time to rehydrate. They have been drying out for 30 years, its going to take more than 5 minutes to undo it.

Re: Vintage Nylon Parts Durability
When I dye nylon, I get better color transfer above 140 deg F. So warmth does open up the nylon structure to fluid absorption.

Re: Vintage Nylon Parts Durability
Warming the water is best but it's still 4-6 hours , boiling for hours would still be needed and 5min boiling is worthless , the only plastics that require boiling for just minuites are the PB Mini Mustang / Maxima arms and it's not for hydration but to de-stress the plastic, it's probably where the...

Re: Six Gear FDR
Just be aware that many motors with that type of can have larger diameter bushings at the pinion end. This will severely limit the amount of adjustment available, without hacking up the motor plate. The end of their cans tend to protrude a little more as well, limiting pinion engagement with the spu...

Re: Six Gear FDR
I raced a 6 gear gold tub at the vonats in the classic class a few times. Tamiya Sport tuned handout motor. I wish I could remember the gearing. I know an 81 spur, the pinion was in the 23-25 range I think. Motor was hot, but I didn't care. Only had to last 3 runs. As mentioned above, you will...

Re: JG Mid Optima
Awesome project! Thanks much for including the RCCA article on it. It's a great time warp to read back when all this was new. I'm starting into a bit of Frankenbuild that will also need some XL belts cut down in width (10mm to the Kyosho 3mm) You find any great trick to cutting the belt to width? Lo...

Re: Novak NES-1A haul - Kent Clausen white version
The UK ESC scene was very much a cottage industry, with manufacturers turning out their products from garden sheds in the early days. Nick Adams of Demon started out in 1979 and was making his early electronic, non-FET units from 1980, shifting to the Big Devil and Little Devil FET units at some poi...

Re: Novak NES-1A haul - Kent Clausen white version
I should also probably add that the Novak timeline also states 'Electronic speed controls make their first World Championship appearance at the 1985 Off-Road Worlds, with both Jay Halsey and Gil Losi Jr using them to capture world titles.' In fact, my mate Jimmy Davis (who incidentally is the guy wh...
