Re: So what did you get in the post today ???

It didn't come in the post per se, but I got my original Top Cat back. :D It is pretty rough and has gained a few speed holes in the chassis in the 28 or so years since I saw it last. I will rebuild it and run it, preserving what I can. I have a boat load of re-re TC and Cougar parts for that which ...

Re: So what did you get in the post today ???

In addition to selling my Top Cat back to me for the very reasonable price of $0.00 (that is the equivalent to 0 pounds for you Englishmen) , my buddy threw in a lightly used Storm 2000. From what I can tell, the front end was just removed to get the servo out, presumably to go in another car....

Re: So, what did you do RC today?

It wasn't today, but last Wednesday I ran my first organized RC car race since ~1996. :D It was a carpet oval race. I broke my KF2 in practice, so I slapped a set of slicks on my re-re Top Cat. I ran novice class against a few "street stock" Slashes (basically LCG chassis, RPM hop ...

Re: So, what did you do RC today?

No pics, but last night I rebuilt the diff in my freebie Schumacher Storm 2000. That, shock rebuilds for good measure, and a light dusting is all it is going to take to make it as good as new. The owner said he only ever drove it "a few times" before pulling the steering servo out for use e...

Re: Your favorite ESC (with photo)

I don't have a favorite, really, but right now I have a bunch of brushless ESCs, and 1 classic that I sold to a buddy in the early 90s. I just got it back, so it jumped to the top of my list.

Re: So what did you get in the post today ???

Not a lot, sadly. I am in back-order hell. I did get drive shaft cruciforms for my Top Cat. I hadn't bought any because I never imagined they would wear. I assumed metal, even cheap metal, would always win rubbing against plastic. I have a stockpile of the plastics driveshafts. On this old Top Cat, ...

Re: Storm 2000 wheels

klavy69 wrote: Fri Jan 27, 2023 9:05 pm You got pictures of what storm wheels look like?

Todd
There were 2 styles (maybe more) and I think both were available in yellow or white.

The pics are from the interweb for illustration purposes. Not mine.

Re: Storm 2000 wheels

Schumacher had a set of Cougar 2000 wheels and a pair of Menace rear wheels in stock, so I have those coming. I have no idea what direction this project will go, so keeping my options open. It could end up as a buggy, a truck, a carpet racer with a VTA body, maybe even a rally car. The Menace rear w...

Re: 93 Kinwald rc10 worlds build

Looking at the first photo, my first thought was "wow, I didn't realize how much Losi stuff it took to make an AE car work" {zipping up flame-proof suit} Hydra drive was such a cool thing at the time! Just one more thing we lost to the smooth sticky tracks I suppose. Looking forward ...

Re: Do vintage batteries for display leak over time?

Maybe there is a market there for someone to exploit. Manufacture tiny metal can sized like a NiCad but have the "positive terminal" be a plug. Use the plug to add BBs or lead or whatever to weight it properly. People could print or buy the decals they want for their application.

I would just paint the hood on the real car something different to make the RC project easier.

Re: Do vintage batteries for display leak over time?

Just 3D print some... I think the metal cans would look much better than printed. You could heat shrink the proper color (red, yellow, purple, black), and solder bars and wires on them just like the originals. It just occurred to me that not everyone assembled packs from loose cells like I did. So ...

Re: So, what did you do RC today?

My lower stiffer Cougar was flying last night! It has a lot more left in it as it was pushing wide on exit, forcing me to modulate the throttle. Even so, I think the car is "done" for now. Time to work on the driver. Well, maybe thicker fluid in the right front shock. In the prev...

It looks like it goes with that shock tower.

Meanwhile my old Cougar has 1 shock mount hole up top and 2 at the A arm. And I still make the wrong choice.
