Re: What's in the mail? Or, What are you currently waiting for?
Got some motors coming in the mail.... 01.jpg 02.jpg Flying Point new in bag motors. Look to be a black silver can, from what I can see..... but that's all I know - have not yet been able to find any further information about type, turns, or what model they were sold for. All I can say for sure is t...

Re: QIDI Plus4 - 3D Printer
The body actually looks pretty good -- especially when you consider that it was printed in one piece. Things like door handles, lights and the VW medallion really should be printed separately so everything can be easily prepped for paint. This can be done with this model. You have perhaps the first ...

Re: QIDI Plus4 - 3D Printer
Hmm, not sure what is happening. As a test, I've made a new build plate, imported the body, rescaled by 50% and rotated so it fits the plate. Then, I've repeated the process for the roof. This was done in Bambu Studio. 50 percent scale.JPG In Orca, if you rescale each part by the same percentage, ar...

Re: QIDI Plus4 - 3D Printer
Thanks! I didn't use percentages when scaling, just typed in an absolute number for both parts on the Y-axis. I'll measure the body first, and make the difference up on the roof next time. This model might be good for road running, or demolition derby, but it's not shelf worthy unfortunately :). I'...

Re: Tamiya Rough Rider & Sand Scorcher
Thank you for the great write up and article! My first RC car was a Super Champ back in 82-83 and my first car was a Baja Bug that I started building in 84 and became my daily when I started driving in 86. These VW based cars will always have a special meaning to me
Thanks again!

Re: QIDI Plus4 - 3D Printer
That's a great looking dune buggy model. Glad I could help. Regarding the bus roof, yes it would require a lot of sanding and filling to make a terrace farm like that smooth. Key to minimizing layer lines is to tilt the part to around 45 degrees from the build plate. When it's time to print parts fo...

Re: QIDI Plus4 - 3D Printer
Thanks! I've heard/seen good things from Revell's chrome spray however I'll need to handle the parts to install them so it's probably not an option -- at least not for this project. BTW, I've received a reply from Alclad: Hello Doug I've contacted the distributor who supplies Maul's World there have...

Re: Tamiya Super Champ
Great write-up! I was 13 when I saved up enough money to buy this kit. It's actually kind of wild to think back on how this single purchase developed skills that would guide me down paths in both my personal and professional life for the last 42+ years. I have 2 ebay finds in my collection. One will...

Re: Tamiya Buggy Champ - 2009 Reissue Rough Rider
The build is looking great! I have a rere Buggy Champ on the to be built shelf. Thanks for documenting the build and sharing your thoughts and tips along the way. I'm glad you pointed out the issue with the missing lettering on the front tires. I purchased a Super Champ and it just happened to have ...

Re: Tamiya Buggy Champ - 2009 Reissue Rough Rider
That'd be really cool... those four-point front guards look perfect on the Sand Scorchers.GreenBar0n wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 2:55 pm Funny you should say that, I was thinking about taking that exact front bumper from the Sand Scorcher, for the Rough Rider and getting the more box art shaped front bumper for the SS. Haven't decided yet.
