Yet another rc10 chassis stamp question

Post by xanadu »

Hello, I was just looking at my rc10ds chassis, and noticed that it was stamped "A" on the bottom. It is black and I bought it new in package. It had no holes for the stealth and the battery cup holes were offset. The label on the chassis was the newer american flag. I thought that the stealth came out before the black chassis. So what did they make the black "A" stamped chassis for?

This is an unbuilt kit? The offset battery cup holes is correct for the A-stamp chassis, but NO holes for the Stealth tranny? I am pretty sure no cars came with a black chassis and the original tranny, so it sounds like you have one that slipped by quality control or something. The Stealth tranny and the black chassis came out at the same time, sort of; it's the same chassis, just powder coated black and drilled for the Stealth. The RC10CE still came with the 6-gear tranny for another year or so after the Stealth was released, so I don't know how much longer the gold chassis was available without the new holes, but by the time the RC10DS came out the 6-gear tranny was phased out for at least a couple of years.

While I’ve never heard of any of those chassis that actually made their way into kits, I’ve seen a few of the black anodized A stamped chassis. I have a couple NIP, and they are also in the package with the American flag 6301 header card.

Maybe it was accidental on Associated’s part? Perhaps they’re just leftover A chassis they decided to toss into the black ano vat with the others? Who knows? But whatever the reason, they are one of those rare and collectible oddball items, at least to this collector. 8)

It could of been one of the optional colored chassis. I have a blue one that was not drilled for the stealth.
