Post by mikedealer »

The tq70 fronts were option tires and didn't come with any kits. The tq10 car had tq76 front tires which had large pin spikes, equivalent to proline dirt flirt tires.

The long front arm tq10 is the only car I can't make any claims on since I've never seen or checked the parts of an nib one. I know the short arm tq10 has tq76 front tires and was later updated with wider arms, shock tower and other minor parts, but thought it kept the same tires? Its possible though........

Doesn't seem to be any truly definitive info out there... I'll stick with the theory until proved otherwide though. It sounds plausible, anyway...

I did manage to archive a bunch of different TQ10 photos from auctions and around the interweb when I was doing the Dirty Girl resto.

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=1307

There was one late TQ10 new build with TQ70's on ebay a while ago, but the guy also put RPM arms & HT steering on it  I don't know what the rear tires are, either. :?

I'd gladly trade NIP TQ70's or TQ71's for TQ76's just to cover my bases.

So the 2.1" front tire/car relationship seems to be:

TQ76 pin spike: TQ10 1st generation

TQ70 pyramid spike: TQ10 2nd generation (wide arm, four hole shock tower)

TQ71 three rib : Graphite Car, 6 gear CE, early production Stealth Team Cars. Basically all the "four holes per side" shock tower versions.

TQ72 four rib or TQ73 (?) five rib : Stealth CE, Stealth Team Cars.

The five rib shipped on the final versions of the CE around the time that the plastic parts were changed to black. I don't know about the final Team versions.

TQ74 four rib : Worlds Car (Proline 8015) I don't think they were ever referred to as "TQ" tires, but the AE number was 6874...sooo

Maybe if someone will confirm this info we could start a part reference sticky? :?:

Rear tires next... ?

Nice car. I really want one of those. That is the only (vintage) 10 I don't have.

To complete "the set" you'll need both versions.

Narrow and wide arm TQ10's...

Narrow= basically a 6010 w/ graphite chassis and TQ wheels.

Wide= Like a "real" Graphite 6030 without u joint rear axles.

Sorry... thought you knew.

Yup, the info sounds good temple! I've never heard of tq73 fronts, but I don't doubt their existence either. I recently picked up a wide arm tq10 with tq76 tires that were gound down from street use :( so mine must have been an earlier run as you stated.

The parts books says 6873 5 rib tires, new kit standard. I maybe made up the TQ73 part...

Still, that's a good looking TQ10! Has the OG RC10 gear cover, even... Maybe the original owner wore out more than one set of tires...

Does it have ALL the side chassis holes countersunk?

Wouldn't it be nice if AE would provide a detailed history of the evolution? Like the VW community has...via Progressive Refinements. You'd think it wouldn't be that hard to do... :? Think AE kept a record of running changes??

He definitely changed the rears....... and then wore them out too! When I got the car, it had worn out yokomo tr-8 tires in the back and tq76 fronts. It had the 4-hole front shock tower, black idler gears (I think the short arm tq10 had the white ones?) and all bushings in the back with just the four front wheel bearings (similar to what came with the short arm car). I looked at the pics of your tq10 in the dirty girl post and my chassis has all the side holes countersunk just like it.

I agree with you, I kinda wish associated had kept a tab on this "Horizon tq10" the way they did for their own. Where's the love?
