Just bought an old T3---Shock rebuild question

Post by Tony Toudor »

I was wondering what it takes to rebuild these shocks. I have not had them apart, but they seem to have leaked over time. The manual shows two orings per shock. I was wondering if you can use any oring of the same size or do you have to buy a rebuild kit? Also, the manual claims that the shocks use 30W oil. Will any 30W oil work or only "special" oil?

Thanks!

I would use the shock rebuild kit because it has everything to rebuild the shocks. The AE 30wt oil is not the same as other 30wt oils. I would stick with the AE synthetic oils. Just my .02

I just did mine. I found a video with a lot of tips for rebuilding the Shock and the different things you can do to outfit your ride with the course you are running on. The big thing is to replace the O-rings and clean the shaft really good. Also make sure no air gets trapped in the oil. It will cause fauler or weak points in the shock. Good luck and enjoy!!!

X2  Also they have instructions in the kit that takes you step by step. Make sure you have a sharp X-acto knife so you get a smooth edge on the plastic parts. They come on plastic trees. I'm in the process of rebuilding mine too. 3 to go.
