17mm hex conversion?

Post by redeye »

I like the look of the buggy wheels with the 17mm hex http://www.modelsport.co.uk/associated-rc8rs-race-spec-rtr-1-8th-buggy/rc-car-products/370668, where can I find a conversion kit for my GT?

stay away from the AKA fronts, they use a microscopic outer bearing in the front adapters that blow up in no time, no matter how careful you try to shim them (and make a proper inner spacer)... i ended up buying another brand adapters from amain (cant remember the company but they seem like another generic chinese alloy parts manufacture), those rears ended up as junk, space the rear way too far, but the fronts used standard 3/8th bearings on BOTH ends... havent had a problem..

the AKA rears are great, and if you use t4 rear cvd axles, you can get a spacer (i use a losi spacer but im sure the ae ones are the same...duh) between the cross pin and adapter to really get them snug..make sure you use shims and the inner bearing crush sleeve....with a stock associated axle nut, do NOT use the aka nuts, too heat treated, stick out too far, shatter, and leave a nub inside nearly impossible to undo...

regardless of adapters, buggy wheels are super rigid, nothing like the pillow soft sidewall stadium truck tires....landing at a 50 degree angle on the sides of the wheels will break the stock aluminum front axle threads, and a harsh enough crossed landing will break axle stubs.... just a warning... i think custom works makes steel front axles that fit stock knuckles...... i made some losi xxxnt rtr axles work....
