Trip Out West This Week - Non RC Related
Totally un-RC related, but I thought I would share anyways. I had to go out west for work, specifically for a conference. Third time for me out that direction, but the first for the wife. Taking the wife had it's advantages, as it forced me to pencil in some personal time in the schedule. Usually when I go myself, I am in and out with no time for myself.
If anyone has not been out that way, I would suggest you go. It is really beautiful out there. I grew up 10 minutes from the beach in Florida and the Pacific is nothing like the Atlantic ocean. The water temp is heck of alot colder too. One thing I have a hard time comprehending, is how you guys who live out there, actually how you can afford to do anything? Housing is just plain nuts. I don't get it. Another note, everyone was very friendly and seemed to be a lot more open minded about life in general, as compared to some of the other areas of the states I have been.
Posted some pics..... one of the things I wanted to do with my time on this planet is see the Golden Gate, check one off my list. There was a small beach down the hill that I really wanted to go to, but the wife wasn't feeling too good. Anyone been down there? Is it nice?

Very nice pics. I lived in San Diego for about 15 years of my life. If you get a chance to go I highly recommend it.
Housing is rediculous, but given the average yearly temp in SD is like 69F, people find a way to stay there. I wish I was there myself.

Jim, I wanted to, but I guess that would be a result of having my wife with me. I mentioned I normally don't make time for myself when I travel..... well with my wife, she had every minute scheduled. Coming in we where 3 hours late which didn't help things with plans. We wanted to go whale watching, but the delay nixed that idea. Sunday it rained off and on and that was the day that we planned as the full day of sightseeing. Monday and Tues were booked with the conference, with just a few hours left in the day on Tues to go to the bridge before traffic got nuts. Finally caught the 6:00 a.m. flight out on Wed to head back east. I didn't get to visit one hobby shop, which is usually high on my list of priorities.shodog wrote:dang dude, you were that close and didn't give me a call?
You are in San Jose, right? I might be out that way in March. I will let you know.

You always should let folks know when you're traveling. I love to meet the fine folks I've gotten to know over the years via the net. The added benefit is that your buddies can direct you to things in the area you may not know about (such as great hobby shops - something of which SF has no clue about ... )

See, there's a reason why people don't like Californians. We're just cooler than everyone else. I used to live in Walnut Creek which is in the Bay area. I had a beautiful drive to work down highway 24 where you could see the golden gate and bay every morning. Absolutely stunning.
I have to be back up in Oakland on Monday for business for an all day meeting. No personal time there.
Oh! Great pics, by the way!

Ya I think it would be helpful if we all put our locations under our avatars... maybe one of those maps or something. I was really surprised how many of us live withinlike 3 or 4 hours of me (I got some plans to be announced in like a month BTW).

The beach down at the base of the Golden Gate is just ok, as they all are in Northern California. For a real beach, you guys need to see SoCal. I used to live 1 mile from The Strand in Manhattan Beach. From Malibu (think Baywatch) to Newport, the entire coast is gorgeous. Of course LA is a hard, expensive place to live too. Check out housing prices in Manhattan or Newport Beach!
