Interesting amalgam of old and new parts. Should the "Period Correct Police" come out for this one? :D You have a lot of stuff that is very new that looks really out of place with some of the REALLY old stuff on the car. I like it, i think. I donno, really. Maybe not. I'm not sure how I feel about the anodized Team blue bits, countersunk washers and mini 4-40 nuts on the car yet. Definitely is an odd look with the ancient front wheels/tires, white ball cups and 6-gear chassis drill. I'm going to hold off judgment until I see more of it. ;)

High tech is cool—I'm all for it—you should see some of my contemporary race cars. But my first thought is how high tech of a car is it with a ceramic resistor wiper for a speed controller? TOTALLY out of place on this car, regardless of the age of the build you were going for.

IMO, go either full retro build or full contemporary RC10 throwback with new parts (Lunsford t-buckles, anodized aluminum bits, large wing, soft 2.2 tires and wheels, low slung body, RPM ball ends, brushless and lipo setup, etc). To me, it just looks lost in between somewhere looking for an era or identity to grab onto. JMHO, nothing else. ;)

What kind of body and diff are you planning for this car?

I think what makes the newer items seem more out of place is the vast aray of colors. If all of your aluminum items were anodized gold, I think it would really look nice and not look so out of place.

You can probably get away with the newer hardware on any other vintage race car out there (ultima, jrx2, trx1), but there's just something about the original RC10 what screams "keep me sotck" or atlest period correct.

I'm a bit quirky when it comes to colors. My buddies use to laugh because I'd have a fit when their front wheels didn't match their rear wheels.

Either way, it's a very nice build and we all can't wait to see the final product.

regards,
highwayracer

I hear you guys,

Right now, I'm just kind of throwing everything into the two chassis' I have.

I like the contrast the black carbon with the red washers, the yellow tub and the blue washers...

The resistor, not too sure 'bout it either, I am waiting to find a NIB novak NESC-1.

Servos, novak NES-2H, two.

Receiver, NER-2S.

That would be the electronics I'd install, someday.

I haven't decided on the body, don't really know all my options.

As far as the gear box, all new 6 gear tranny with thorp gears, team losi diff tube with bearing.

I just got my hands on an MIP tranny, but is too beat up to consider, perhaps a NIB tranny.

SO MANY CHOICES, MAKE THE ROOM STOP SPINNING.....

In any event,

thanks for the imput, when the retro police comes over...

tell them to bring some extra parts.

Now what the hell am I supposed to do with these silly, out of place, aluminum arms?

In the end, just build what makes you happy and what appeals to your likes. Really the only person that has to be happy is you (and the wife or girlfriend of course). To me it is no different than a concourse restortation of a classic muscle car or throwing a modern frame underneath a 69 Mustang to make it a Street Rod...... well, we are talking about toy cars. Whatever floats your boat.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

mrlexan...

I like where you're going with this, keep the old school charm, apply new technologies. 8)
