Duplicolor Metalcast

Post by MarkyDents »

Hello everyone,
Seeing if anyone has tried to use this product line to refinish a well used tub.
https://www.duplicolor.com/product/metalcast-anodized-automotive-paint/
I’d did use it with great success years ago to refinish a bmx bike powerdisc.

Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.

The problem with painting aluminum is getting a good bond.

Be sure the metal is clean and use a quality etching primer, like Eastwood. And give the primer plenty of time to dry, otherwise the etching agents will attack the paint.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

Thanks for posting this.
I have no first-hand experience with Metalcast but I've used a lot of Duplicolor paints over many years and I've always found it to be some of the very best rattle can paint on the market. They use a unique nozzle on their cans that lays down a very even coat that allows the paint to flow well (little to no orange-peel) and the paint seems to have good abrasion resistance qualities. It's good stuff.

I completed a low-budget restoration on this '80 Super Sport many years ago and finished the tank, tail and side covers (the silver parts) completely with Duplicolor products. It turned out great.

Thank you so much!
That was an ebay basket case ($675). It was a derelict and came with a burned exhaust valve - very used and abused overall. I pulled it apart, replaced the valve, cleaned and re-finished everything and made a pretty decent bike. I rode it for a few years then sold it at the Vintage Festival at Barber Motorsports Park in 2012 ($2,200). With that pipe, it sounded AMAZING!! I regret selling that one. :(

While it's not a tub, I did use it to refresh my Traxxas motor plate and motor guard. They came out better than I hoped.
