Kyosho Vehicle Lineup 1988

Kyosho advertising a slew of new vehicles from racing to realistic models, motorcycles, and even airplanes in 1988:

Turbo Optima Mid SE: 1/10 4wd electric off-road racing buggy released in 1988. Slender, bronze anodized "Duralumin" flat plate main chassis, fiberglass upper deck, heavy duty molded nylon components. Longer lower a-arms/adjustable camber links & sway bars front and rear. Aluminum plate shock towers and Kyosho's Platinum adjustable dampening, anodized, oil-fill, aluminum bodied coil-over shocks with adjustable collars. Double bellcrank steering system, built-in servo saver and adjustable tie rods. Transverse battery. Mid mounted motor, ball diffs in sealed cases and Kyosho's new belt driven 4wd system. Wave spring equipped slipper clutch, three-gear transmission, steel reinforced rubber belt in sealed cover. Steel dogbones, metal front knuckles, plastic rear carriers, full bearings, eight spoke white nylon wheels, Bridgestone 340-30/20M Sand Super spiked tires. Clear lexan body and wing, solid wing mount, small front bumper, Lemans 240ST motor, heavy duty mechanical speed controller. Sold unassembled, less radio.

Stinger Mk II: 1/10 4wd nitro off-road racing buggy released in 1988. Constructed primarily from EX66 Nylon, aluminum plate chassis and plastic top deck. 4-wheel independent lower a-arm and adjustable camber link suspension, twin bellcrank steering, built-in servo saver and adjustable tie rods. Red anodized aluminum coilover shocks with adjustable collars, aluminum plate rear shock tower. Sealed split case gearboxes, bevel gear differentials, belt drive, three-gear transmission and centrifugal clutch pinion and spur primary drive. Dogbones, bushings, aluminum front hubs and plastic rear carriers. Machine silver finished nylon three piece "phone dial" wheels shod in knobby Bridgestone 340/30-20-M tires. Plastic front bumper, fuel tank, aluminum muffler, mounts for an Enya .09 or O.S. .10 motor, Kyosho's Zip starter and a clear lexan body was included. Sold unassembled without a motor, radio, or electronics.

Honda CRX: 1/12 electric fwd on-road car released in 1988. Kyosho FF chassis, aluminum main plate with plastic upper deck, 4-wheel double a-arm independent suspension, aluminum oil-filled coilover shocks and adjustable tie rod direct steering with Kimbrough style servo saver. Gear diff, pinion and spur direct drive, dogbone axles & bronze bushings. Realistic silver finish nylon wheels, street treaded tires and clear lexan Honda CRX body. Mechanical speed controller and Lemans Stock 05 motor included. Sold unassembled, less radio. Also available as a Peugeot 205 Turbo 16.

Baja Bugs: 1/20 electric 2wd vehicles series initially released in 1988. Miniature versions of Kyoshos 1/10 racing models. Aluminum plate main chassis with plastic upper deck, 4-wheel independent a-arm/camber link suspension with alloy shock towers & adjustable collar oil-filled aluminum coilover shocks. Adjustable tie rod direct steering system and transverse mounted battery. Gear diff and aluminum dogbones. 205-60 Knobby rear tires and 185-60 Rib front tires on one-piece white nylon wheels. Clear lexan body and wing. Mechanical speed controller and Lemans DM20 motor were included but US versions did not include a battery, charger, or radio. Sold unassembled as a 2wd Turbo Optima, 2wd Salute, Ultima, Buick Stocker, BMW M3, and Mercedes 190E.

Nitro Brute: 1/10 nitro 2wd monster truck released in 1988. Gas powered version of Kyosho's Big Brute electric monster truck. Constructed primarily out of plastic, deeply molded tub chassis with top cover. Split case gearbox housings, 4-wheel double a-arm independent suspension system used the same components at all four corners. Six adjustable tie rods, four to stabilize the rear knuckles and two leading to the Kimbrough style servo saver. Bright red plastic shock tower/body mounts, single plastic bodied coilover friction shock per wheel. White front brush guard and tubular style plastic cage surrounding the rear mounted engine. Cog and belt primary drive with bevel gear diff transmission, dog eared plastic driveshafts and metal axle shafts. High offset three-piece white nylon 2.2 truck wheels, 5.4 inch tall Bridgestone monster truck tires and bushings. Highly detailed clear lexan Toyota truck body with chrome bumpers, grille, off-road lights and black triple tube roll bar. Unassembled kit without motor but Kyosho provided mounting hardware, a muffler, air cleaner, fuel tank and clutch to fit several models. Sold less radio.

NSR 500: 1/8 electric motorcycle released in 1988. Plastic construction, split clamshell chassis and bodywork, internally sprung friction dampened front fork, coilover friction dampened rear mono shock. Bottom loading inline mounted battery. realistic chain with pinion and spur primary drive. Directional spoke wheels with rubber tires. Lemans DM20 motor included but sold unassembled less recommended RS-M combination micro speed controller/receiver.

CAP 21: Gas powered airplane released in 1988. 59 inch wingspan, rotationally molded plastic fuselage, balsa wings and tail. Plywood reinforced firewall, wing & landing gear mounts. Fastener construction. Accepted .40 to .45 2 cycle or .60 4-cycle motors, Sold ARF, less motor and radio.
