Whether mud season or Christmas Season Tamiya was excited to display their ever-growing lineup of off-road vehicles in these advertisements from 1982:
Rough Rider: Tamiya's original 1/10 2wd electric off-road racing buggy released in 1979. A scale version of Funco's Single Seat Baja racing buggy. Special Race Buggy platform with flat fiberglass plate chassis, all metal VW style twin trailing arm front/swing arm rear suspension. Adjustable tie rods, centrally mounted ring sprung servo saver single bellcrank steering, hairpin front/torsion rear springs and oil filled aluminum bodied shock absorbers. Rear mounted electric motor, three gear non-differential transmission and die cast metal gearbox/rear bulkhead. Swing axles with universal joints, wide rear and narrow front three-piece plastic beadlock wheels, Sandblaster 915 treaded rear and Sandblaster Jr. ribbed fronts. A clear plastic electronics box, front skidplate, rubber tipped metal bumper, metal roll bar, tubular plastic rear guard, Mabuchi RS540 motor, rotary mechanical speed controller, bushings and hard plastic single seat buggy body included with each unassembled kit.
Sand Scorcher: 1/10 2wd electric off-road buggy released in 1979. Scale VW Beetle Baja Buggy built on the Special Race Buggy platform. Flat fiberglass plate chassis, all metal VW style twin trailing arm front/swing arm rear suspension. Adjustable tie rods, centrally mounted ring sprung servo saver single bellcrank steering, hairpin front/torsion rear springs and oil filled aluminum bodied shock absorbers. Rear mounted electric motor, three gear non-differential transmission and die cast metal gearbox/rear bulkhead. Swing axles with universal joints, wide rear and narrow front three-piece plastic beadlock wheels, 16.50-15 Padlatrak rears and 4.50-15 Smoothee fronts. F-150 Ranger: 1/10 2wd electric off-road truck released in 1927. Scale F-150 stepside built on the Special Race Buggy platform. Flat fiberglass plate chassis, all metal VW style twin trailing arm front/swing arm rear suspension. Adjustable tie rods, centrally mounted ring sprung servo saver single bellcrank steering, hairpin front/torsion rear springs and oil filled aluminum bodied shock absorbers. Rear mounted electric motor, three gear non-differential transmission and die cast metal gearbox/rear bulkhead. Swing axles with universal joints, wide three-piece plastic beadlock wheels from the Sand Scorcher with Sandblaster 915 Treaded tires from the Rough Rider all around. A clear plastic electronics box, front skidplate, rubber tipped metal bumper, metal roll bar, tubular plastic rear guard, Mabuchi RS540 motor, rotary mechanical speed controller, bushings and hard plastic F-150 included with each unassembled kit. Inital production featured deep offset front wheels and narrow front wheel arches, remaining production included shallow offset front wheels and body with wide front arches.
Super Champ: 1/10 2wd electric off-road racing buggy released in 1982. Final model underpinned by the SRB platform. New fiberglass chassis and all metal construction for its gear case, twin trailing arm front/swing arm rear suspension systems. Fiberglass radio plate and redesigned resistor style three step mechanical speed controller. Steering servo moved forward and attached to main chassis, revised central mount coil sprung servo saver equipped bellcrank and spherical tie rods. Hairpin front springs and rear mounted single aluminum bodied coilover mono shock with remote reservoir. Hardened steel universal joints, three-piece plastic beadlock wheels, Super Gripper 16.5-15 spiked rear tires and 4.50-15 Smoothee front tires. New blue molded hard plastic single seat buggy body, front skid plate and bumper, aluminum rear guard and Mabuchi RS540 motor included with each unassembled kit:
Toyota Hilux: 1/10 4wd electric truck released in 1971. Constructed almost entirely out of metal, rectangular tube drop rail ladder frame chassis with functional leaf springs and rear mounted swinging shackles. Mabuchi RS540 motor placed longitudinally up front and backed by a three-speed shift-on-the-fly transmission with built in transfer case. Two universal joint driveshafts, a pair of live axles, miniature u-bolts and selectable hubs. Two-piece aluminum wheels with plastic inserts and four Goodyear branded rubber mud tires. Bed mounted clear radio box housed the required 4000mAh oversized battery. Three piece hard plastic body, bumpers, grille, lights, roll bar, and brush guard and molded plastic interior with driver figure included with each unassembled kit.
Wild WIlly: Comical 1/10 2wd electric stunt vehicle released in 1982. Constructed entirely of plastic, deeply molded tub chassis with rear mounted battery. Coil sprung damperless swing arm and sliding pillar front suspension and coil sprung servo saver with direct acting tie rod steering. Coil sprung damperless twin link arm solid axle rear suspension with swinging motor mount connected the pinion and spur to the axle mounted three gear transmission via universal joint, bevel gear differential and jumbo-sized directional paddle tires on white three-piece plastic spoke wheels with foam liners. Spring loaded front bumper, mechanical speed controller, Mabuchi RS540 motor, spring mounted hard plastic M38 style body, Wild Willy driver, and twin torsion spring wheelie bars were included with each unassembled kit.
