Tamiya presented racers with the difficult nitro decision of picking between the new and compact 1:10 TG10 or the tried and true 1:8 TGX, each made more enticing with the prospect of available Hop Ups in this two-page ad from 1998:
TGX: 1/8 Nitro 4wd on-road platform released in 1994. Tamiya's second nitro model, built on a 2.5mm thick aluminum plate chassis, four-wheel independent camber adjustable double wishbone suspension, oil-filled plastic coilover CVA's with clip on spring spacers and molded shock towers. Bushing equipped dual bellcrank steering system, adjustable tie rods and heavy duty direct mount servo saver. Plastic radio box with hinged lid and flip top fuel tank. Recoil start OPS .15 engine connected via pinion and spur to the shaft driven front and rear bevel gear four-wheel drive system. Metal dogbones and 12mm hex drives all around. Single piece plastic wheels with rubber tires and clear lexan body varied based on model chosen. Available in 13 different body styles and three different chassis, the Mk.1 TS, MK.1, & Mk.1 TRF, the latter of which would come with an upper deck, aluminum shocks, bearings, and a multitude of other hop ups. Though all TGX's came with a muffler, carb, disk brake, and bronze bushings in the unassembled kit.
TG10: 1/10 4wd on-road platform released in 1998. Tamiya's fourteenth nitro model. 2.5mm thick aluminum plate chassis. Pinion and spur primary drive to bevel gear differential equipped transmission. Shaft driven bevel gear front diff. Metal dogbones and 12mm hex drives all around.
