Just come back from the Australian vintage meet.

I went down with a Boomerang ( modified)

Hot Shot almost as modded as Mikes.

We ran Sport tune motors 23t i think and found the Boomerang very good in speed and acceleration with the 17t pinion.

I ran the hot shot for a couple pratice laps and was also very good but i was running a 16t pinion with the sport tune.

I thought the hot shot needed a smaller pinion than the boomerang due to its weight being almost 500g heavier.
Has full metal kit on it too.

Wish i ran it more as it was so good to drive.

If i was running brushless i would be using a 18 to 19t pinion which requires modifications to do so..

i was looking at that, to be able to run a 18-19t pinion... obviously it looks possible although the motor would be slightly lower to the ground, but sufficient i think. gonna have at it with a dremel this weekend

Hey Mike,

First off, nice Hot Shot, it looks menacing,

I ran a CO27 27t stock motor with a 30C Orion lipo on my Losi XX, and I was keeping up pretty good with the 10.5 BL guys.

A 17.5 is only competitive with the brushed stock motors, if they're geared through the roof.

I would suggest try the Brushed 27t stock motor, and see how that works out for you.

i am going to try the stock motor setup too. i never really figured out the whole stock to brushless equivalency thing lol.

In genral a brushless will require at least 4 to 5 teeth bigger piniom of the brushed equalivant.

I do only have a little experiance with brushless but this is were it gets weird.

The bigger the pinion you go the faster it accelerates as well. Thats why you hear about the temps of the motor. So they gear it just before Thermal cut off.

I run brushed in all my vinytage tamiya's and a brushless in my rc 10 graphite.
