Yeah theres a works on UKs ebay site right now, but they wont ship outside. Figures too, alot of the parts for the older cougar cars are from the UK and they wont ship outside either.8rad wrote:They pop up occasionally on Ebay.co.uk but often sellers dont post outside of UK.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
I'm going to make a small list of items I need and put it in the wanted section soon. I started tearing down the tranny and to my surprise its almost complete. The only issue I see is the slipper spacer on the top shaft. It looks like the spacer should fit snuggly into the outer bearing, but the spacer is too big. Heres a pic:

Does anyone have the correct spacer they'd be willing to sell? (Part number T1219)
I'm also going to be looking for a a 1.5mm pin (A4011), slipper clutch spring (T1218) and the thrust race assembly (A520), although I have read that a losi XX thrust assembly should fit.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
The spacer is not supposed to fit in the bearing. It is only a spacer. The back slipper plate sits inside the bearing and keys on the slipper shaft pin. I might have a pin that you can have. I will check my parts bin tonight.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
based on that diagram, I'm guessing then that the bearing thats in it is too big because the inner diameter much bigger than the slipper shaft, therefore not supporting it. I'll try to take another pic tonight showing you what I mean.

Not the slipper shaft. The Slipper plate. If you look at the back of the slipper plate you will notice it is the same diameter as the bearing id. If it helps press the slipper plate in the bearing first and then continue assembling.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
I need a gear cover, and I've hard the originals are pretty much impossible to find. Someone mentioned that the gear covers were being repo'd by someone. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where to get one? I've had no luck on ebay.

Yes. They are impossible. Took me a year of searching before I found one.
Here is the thread about repros. I dont think anything happened though.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
Gear adapter for using RW tufnol RC10 spur gears with the standard Cougar/Topcat/Procat layshaft.

Thats a discription for an auction on ebay. I have no idea what "RW tufnol" is. Will this adapter alow me to run readily available spur gears such as a B4 spur? If not is there an adapter out there that will?

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
This is a RW Tufnol spur gear attached to a MMS layshaft in my Cougar 1.

I've got a few Tufnol spurs here, but the rest are 64dp

Is there a reason you're looking to fit RC10 spurs to your Cougar? Just asking because the originals are readily available still from Schumacher.
Paul.

Ahh so RW Tufnol is a manufacturer? I think thats where I was confused...i didnt know that was a company. I just throught I could use any associated spur with that adapter. I'll just stick with schumacher spurs.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
FYI, RW is the name of the company that produced the spur gears....Tufnol is the name of the material the spur gears are made from.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
So my wife is away for the weekend, and I thought, what a better time to start this project. I stripped it down and cleaned it up as best I could.
So far so good. The only issue I'm having is with the steering rack, more specifically the rack is held on by the two swing arms by a loose screw and nut and doesnt seem right to me. I didnt disassemble it, its the way it arrived.
Heres a pic..

With the car I also recieved a bunch of parts, including this steering rack..

I noticed this has bronze bushings in it, which my works rack doesnt. So I thought...I'll just take the bushings out and use them on my build....but for the life of me I cant get them out. Any ideas? I almost took a dremel to it earlier but decided not to in fear of damaging the bushing.

Re: New to me Cougar 2 Works
My works has a bronze nut, similar to your bottom pic except mine is a hex nut. It's a shallow nut, and it's hard to take a pic where it is or i'd have done it for you.
