Exactly. Nothing ruins a pic of your car more than when you can see right through the body in the sunlight.gomachv wrote:It keeps the paint from being opaque. If you only put orange on it you will probably be able to see thru the paint a bit. Backing it also gives you a chance to change the color slightly. Backing with silver, white, gold etc will all show thru a bit differently
Also, backing with black will really darken most colors. I once painted Tamiya chrome yellow and backed it with black and it came out looking almost like a lime green.

OK here are the spray cans I used on this one:
Tamiya PS-19 Camel Yellow main body
Tamiya PS-33 Cherry Red accent stripe
Pactra RC252 Blue Streak accent stripe
Tamiya PS-3 Light Blue accent stripe
Pactra RC251 Sprint White accent stripe
All colors were backed with silver to prevent bleed thru. Overall I'm very happy with how it came out, only mistake was I messed up on the rear wing and put the pink on the bottom instead of the top. Will eventually correct this when I find a correct wing
Amazing work!
Always wondered what colors those were on the boxart. Really happy to find this in a search. The only paint color that was discontinued was the Pactra RC251 Sprint White, I'd use Tamiya PS-1 white instead.
Would be a lot cheaper to not paint the stripes on, and just use the decals, but it looks so much better painted on, like Andy does.
