Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
BEAUTIFUL replica!!
Does any other driver even come close to Masami's success?
Today I'd say Drake is pretty successfull in a couple of classes, but that trophy picture - MAN!

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
I think Masami was not in the official Schumacher Team at that time.........he came to IFMAR as a private driver........AD-RS1600i wrote:Wow, very well done that is an absolutely stunning replica!I bet Masami would struggle to know whether it was his car or not from that picture lol!!
Top marks with the stickers as well, that must have taken a unbelievable amount of effort... I did think the cat had seen some use so might be the real thing? I remember seeing the Masami Cat at Schumacher racing and it was covering in similar dust and debris from the race... oh and the original very first CAT mocked up!
Absolutely love the picture of all his cars and trophies, he surely has got to be one of the best drivers of all time. Can anyone tell me whether it is a CAT XLS on the bottom left row? I know Masami was a Yohomo man after this drive, sadly for Schumacher...
Might be worth reruning a few of those stickers, i'm sure there would be some takers! I certainly don't like the modern schumacher graphic with the line and arrows twisted....

Nice work Jimbo - sometimes I think you're more passionate about Schumacher's off-road racing heritage than they are themselves

I agree - I find Schumacher at odds with their history and customers (in a sense of being hands on with us) half the time - as much as I love the cars and organisation..

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
I asked the same question a long while ago. I think it was either Terry or Doug whom answered it with a good amount of detail. For the most part, yes, he was independent at the time and I want to say from memory, in 4WD he didn't have anything to run. Schumacher had an extra car and asked him to be the pilot....... something along those lines. I can't find the original thread.minimini wrote:I think Masami was not in the official Schumacher Team at that time.........he came to IFMAR as a private driver........
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
No, it's an original short wheelbase CAT. Phil Booth put together three of the latest spec CAT XL with all the latest mods for Schumacher to hand out to anyone who looked fast. The Hirosakas were a private entry, only sponsored by HPI motors, with his own SWB CAT as the long wheelbase models hadn't reached Japan. Masami did so well with the SWB car Schumacher gave him a latest spec XL to race, which he then used to win the event. That's why it isn't in Masamis green paint scheme (like the CAT in the picture)AD-RS1600i wrote:Absolutely love the picture of all his cars and trophies, he surely has got to be one of the best drivers of all time. The XLS didn't come out until some time after the Worlds.
And for anyone who wants the stickers, it would be better to contact Willy

Re: Masami's '87 Worlds Schumacher Cat
Thanks for that, wow ! So (althought it would likely happened anyway lol) that little SWB CAT kicked Masami's career off in the right direction! - Great thinking by Schumacher - give anyone who looks quick the lastest car just in case... what an amazing wild card!terry.sc wrote:No, it's an original short wheelbase CAT. Terry you know far to much. I thought it was Phil Davis that made Masami's car?terry.sc wrote:No, it's an original short wheelbase CAT. If I wanted a car built properly Phil Booth is the only fella I'd let build itJimbo wrote: Terry you know far to much. I thought it was Phil Davis that made Masami's car?
