it happens
Yes it does. And I did it in 1984. It took AE like another 10+ years to figure out it looked decent that way.

I still don't understand why you did not smile or at least look happy in that 1984 picture? You should of had a big $h!t eating grin on your face! Like Mr Green !
Is Mr. Green in pain because his braces just got tightened? Thats my only possible explanation.
Well here it is, after a few more finishing touches I will have to get one of the Gallery pages..
Damit, this thing is just beautiful!
Looks just like a car I would have raced back then, tires and all. In fact, everything!
Very Nice Job, She makes me drool!
I really like the early RCHR stickers you have on the body, I got some of the later ones with the yellow horizontal lightning bolt.
Excellent!
Very nice job on this. it really makes me what to fins part to build my original gold 10. But in your case it is phenomenal that this is actually you original car.
love it.
Thanks for the props. Can you believe that's the original painted body I got when I got the kit? Those original Protech's are just bullet proof, even if part of it is missing, and probably heavy by today's standards. I think I'll type up one of those parts lists for the Gallery some of you guys do. That would be fun. I almost forgot this shot...
Brian,
I really like your car!
I can't quite put my finger on it, but a lot of it has to do with the fact it looks just like the old RC10's we used to race in the very early years of the RC10. I remember running those front tires and wheels, and a homemade wing kinda like yours with the lexan side dams added on afterwards and all. Your paint job looks great still too.
I only choppped the back-end of the body off of mine on one body after all these years and I personally didn't like it like that so that never happened again, but I just had to tell you that your car looks freaking awesome.
I could only wish that I would have kept my original RC10 parts, because even though I never sold an RC10 that I owned, I did mix and match parts and also experiment alot.
I think I know where my original chassis and nosepiece is... We used to do some cement paved oval racing from time to time on an outdoor roller skating ring for the public, that had steel tubes around the outside to support the handrails at the top of the banked turns and all around the ring. I remember a few of us hitting those steel poles, and I may have been one of them and eventually just got new parts to repair my buggy and a new chassis and nose plate. The old original parts went into an "experiment" bin I used to have for material to have around.
Needless to say it is probably part of a landfill or went to a reclaimed metals depot and was transformed into something else. I just wish I had it with me like you had yours. Who would have known back then, that many years later we would be wanting these things back. Collecting anything was never part of my personality.
Congrats on a great car, and just had to tell you how much I like it!
So that body is your original and it still looks that good? Did you paint that or did you buy it painted back in the day?
That is a sweet looking body and sweet looking fully tuned chassis! Ruffy is right, It just looks the part of a vintage racer and brings back great memories!

It came painted with the car. I remember RCH had painted body/small spoiler combos hanging on the wall behind the counter shortly after they got the cars in, so I was able to pick one off the wall and swap it out for the unpainted shell in the box. I don't know if it's technically an AE/Curtis paint job (6160P) or it was someone else, but it's not signed (note Andy's was selling signed SRB/Scorpion bodies on the wall too at that point - they looked too hot to handle even then). I got it winter of '84. That's all I remember Rod. It's a bit of a different style than those blue and white ones you guys have. Could have been an in-shop job, I don't know.
Found 'em. First 2 are at Ascot in Gardena. There was a circle track that incorporated an infield to convert it to an off road alignment. The last the Ranch in Del Mar, but I don't know where my car is. That blue blur might actually be my SRB. I don't know.
Is that Ernie P. sitting there in the white and yellow shirt, or Gary Kyes? Could be either of them.
Kinda looks like them.
Thank-you for these awesome pictures!
I remember racing on tracks where the barriers were all banked dirt mounds!
Man does this take me back to when I was young.
This is my original RC10 with D&D Graohite chassis plate that I bought back in the day as a school kid that worked my guts off to save for this piece of history. It was so expensive for me that I decided never to use it other than to make sure it...

Where's the tub?
Can't find it sadly. Also it's strange as there is no reason I would have thrown it away.
That guy came here and spammed the board trying to sell it. He got defensive when told it was against the rules. I sent him a PM encouraging him to stick around but he said he only came here for that one purpose.
I have this question, and it may have been asked before; did AE ever make the original tires for the kit, the RC10T team car that is shown on the box art and in the ads at the time (see pic).
Every rebuild of the original I see has...

Hi everyone. Like many kids growing up in the 80s, I dreamed of owning the ultimate race buggy, an RC10. I've messed around with modern RC cars with my kids, but they don't have the same feel of the vintage cars.
Well sort of new, it was given to me by my brother-in-law 3 years ago, after sitting in a box in his garage for 20 years. I didn't have any interest in it, so it sat on a shelf in my basement until now. From what I can tell, it's the Cadillac...

I just bought a Traxxas Stampede 4 x 4 with lipos and I'd like the RC10 to be able to keep up with it. Brushless and lipos seemed to be the only way. I've had a number of people say to keep it original. But, I figure I can always put the original...
I've started collecting vintage RC cars, mostly RC10s up to now, but always wanted a Yokomo. I used to race 4wd in the early 90's but never got round to buying and racing a Yokomo of any sort....
I've managed to get my hands on what was...

That is one awesome collection of Yokes. The Yokomo bug has well and truly got to me now. I've got a YZ834B, YZ870C, YZ10 Works '92 and a YZ10 94 and I still want more! :D
