I had a hard time working out why the early Dogfighter shocks also had the coils inside the shocks....in the end I built them without them. seems weird to have coils inside. :?

It is a bit strange but this is my thought now that I got it built. These shocks don’t hold a lot of oil and I am not sure if they ran think oil on them back then. With this in mind the inside spring prevent the outer spring to rebound all the way and it slows it down preventing the car to jump from the pressure of the outer shock after landing and pushing the arms down.

I am not sure how much sense this makes. Sorry if I confused you more.

Have not worked on this guy for some time now but the other day digin some old boxes at the LHS I found a wing for it so it is time to mount the boy. Unfortunately the body and driver where cut out by the previous owner and It use to look like he cut it with his gardening scissors and had holes drilled but not in the correct location so it was a bit sideways. I made it work as best as I could.
I found the wing and it came with this thick wire that was already partially bent so I made this wing bracket that works the same way as the original one.

It is kind of cool how the driver is almost a full body and it looks kind of cool like that. The actual body fits on top of the driver and I have to say this car look very nice with all the lexan on, this body is really good looking, IMO.
I also have the lexan for underneath the tranny case and the gear cover but don’t plan to install it now because I like it all open for display purposes.

WOW! Looks great Miguel.

To maybe shed a little light on the inner shock spring question, they are actually there for a simple reason, volume compensation. I believe the shocks are actually made by Delta and all of their shock designs utilized a floating piston/o-ring/spring to compensate for the rod area differential  Wha?? Yup, as the shock piston and rod move up and down in the bore of the shock there is a greater volume of oil on the top side of the piston vs. the rod side of the piston because of the shock shaft (rod). As the piston travels upward more volume is taken up by the shock shaft in the bore. The extra oil has to go someplace so they developed the floating piston design to constantly adjust the amount of volume on that end of the piston. They can be a bit of a B***h to fill since they are actually pressurized at this point. Anyone who has run the older Custom Works cars knows what I mean. Depending on how much oil you get in there determines the working length of the shock, one drop too much or too little can make a difference. OK for one, but to try and match four of them, UGH! Associated used this type of shock on most all of the 12L's and side shocks on the 10L's. The foam bladder in some of the newer Associated shocks has the same effect, but much easier to deal with. Hope that made a little sense :?
Years ago I started off with nothing ... and I still have most of it left.

Thanks for the comments guys; I am really happy with the turn out on this project. It really looks good.

Thanks pancar for the explanation, which makes a lot of sense. I always wandered if this might be a close reason why the rear RC10 shock shaft is so long and requires spacers inside.

This is the package for the wing I found, it has some straps inside but no wing mount. The mount probable had fallen because the bag had a bunch of holes but the lexan was like new.

Nice Job m_vice. Looks awesome. Keep me in mind if you find more body parts for the pro-110.
