Re: New Optima-based Build

Fantastic job on this - it runs as good as it looks! It was fascinating watching the design materialize into a working original model - you have some serious skills!

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

That's a really great restoration! Nice job!! I have always liked both Rockys and have a pair that need their own restorations. I think the Turbo variant is definitely scarce, especially in the US. As far as I know, it was never formally distributed here via the usual channel, i.e. Great Planes. Th...

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

No progress with the paint job but the replacement bumper arrived this week, still amazed you can get these parts after 30 years for a model that didn't have the success & popularity that the Optima had. Makes a big difference to the front end appearance :D IMG_7722.JPG Off with the old.... IMG_...

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

Such an attractive looking car and you've done it real justice , I'm surprised its not more popular ? Thanks Dadio. As for its popularity, I think it was down to timing. Although it had some major upgrades over the standard Rocky (which itself was a good car), from memory it was released around the...

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

Thanks for comments all. Here it is with the body cut and fitted. So the paint job is up next..I don't tend to go with box art, so I'm thinking of either staying with the box design but using yellow & blue from the standard Rocky scheme instead, or going with a different design from box art alto...

Re: Dye Kyosho Rerelease (re-re) White Wheels

Hi - I haven't tried to dye wheels but I'd be really interested in the outcome. As coincidence would have it, I was only looking at a spare set of Optima Mid wheels this morning and wondering how I could re-colour them! I have cracked how to re-whiten wheels that have yellowed over time, but not re...

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

Nice progress ! Looks like somebody is already 3d printing those steering linkages https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3d-printed-reproduction-of-RK-5-Kyosho-Rocky-Turbo-Rocky-steering-bellcrank/153820642410?hash=item23d06cbc6a:g:Ba8AAOSwNQReOLps If it were me I might get one and use it to preserve the orig...

Re: My Ultima 2019

This paint job may take longer than expected. I had to use some Fasmask and it says to let it dry for 24 hours. I think I can do the other 2 colors just using masking tape. The helmet and gloves will be the same color. Maybe not the best color for the gloves, but I'm using paint I already have on h...

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

Front and rear shocks on, then both ends joined up. The parts on this car are in mostly really good shape, I think it benefited from being under a full size body (the RS200 body the previous owner had on it) rather than the standard buggy style shell. The platinum shocks are in great condition. The ...

Dadio wrote: Sat Jun 13, 2020 5:07 pm Thanks , the two large holes next to each other are they for large ball studs ?
Yes - 2 ball joints for the steering linkage to the wheel knuckle joints. The smaller brass ball joint is for the steering servo arm.

Dadio wrote: Sat Jun 13, 2020 6:57 am You often hear about the broken steering linkage and you mention it in an early post , could you take some pictures ? I'd like to see how hard it would be to reproduce .

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

Rear portion complete minus the shocks and 'offered up' to lower chassis plate, but not bolted in yet. The metal chassis was one of the key differences over the standard Rocky, which had a plastic tub chassis. I will post some pics of the Turbo next to my standard Rocky when this one is finished. 20...

Re: Turbo Rocky restoration

I love those tires! That is a sweet looking buggy. I had never seen one before. I didn't see too many back in the day when they came out - pretty much everyone was racing either Optima Mids or Cat's at my local club at the time. I always liked my original Rocky, it performed pretty well in races fo...
