I don't know exact production numbers and exactly when they switched to tall shock towers and brown chain covers...
I'm not sure if every Optima had an extra hole centred under the mech speed control or whether that was changed mid-production

Kyosho class of '87
I do believe in white tire lettering, driver dolls, tails for Javelins and bodies for Stinger MK 11s..they exist..I'm just lazy and my completion rate isn't high. I don't personally believe in reproductions so these are original. The Optima in the foreground isn't perfect boxart...but is an ex-Japan...

I didn't follow the PB buggies, more the nitro on roads...it's weird for me to see the PB signature style morphed for buggies as they share a common look...

Re: Help Please
You can tell it's a genuine Optima by the broken shock collars....even the bad clones had better quality shock collars than the real Optima red ones. I'm with the the iffy anodizing real Optima brigade (not that those 5 were lonely).

Re: spare parts ID
As Mr Ed says they are scorpion arms used on many Kyosho 2wds of the time including Scorpion, Tomahawk, Turbo Scorpion, Assault and Advance. Die casting quality varied a lot...yours look like to be in very good condition and original manufacture...that said they are fairly easily and cheaply availab...

Does anyone know why Ayk re-colored the 480R? Or which came first?

Not to pre-empt Bullfrog's response, but my money is on a reproduction Javelin doll.

Re: Optima Tires......
The third picture with sharp spikes are the Ayk Viper tires on standard Pure 10 touring rims. I'm not sure officially what the Viper wheels are as they have no internal inner rim...I measure the rims at variable up to 30mm wide, 48mm internal diameter and the actual tires 24mm wide at the rim. The p...

Re: Vintage Kyosho Fantom EP-4WD
If this is NZ$160 with low shipping in my view that's a pretty good price as the major 4wd parts look there. This is an earlier non-EXT version which is more rare but less desirable. The Kremer Porsche body is one of the rarer ones if it can be salvaged...very rare to find a Kremer body NIP and any ...

I played dress ups on a Javelin (usually fitted with boring option house W-5032s) with some Sand Super/Option House alternatives. incident.JPG super10.JPG viper.JPG If it were my call, Lazer ZX5 tires on black Super 10 5 spoke (I only have the multispokes :() wheels are cheap and practical runners. ...

Re: who's this behind the wheel and what's he driving?
I checked an original Mugen Bulldog driver doll and it definitely isn't that. The distinctive seatbelts aren't part of the bulldog mould. The bulldog is on the simpler side of things where the mystery driver is very, very detailed.

Re: My hobby room!
Could you pretty please take a nostalgia sized close-up picture of the Optima silver transparency you have wisely framed. It brings back both memories and regrets of having assembled a car on one, including grease stains and then throwing it away. There is the same image on the KOC pamphlets but see...

Re: An RCL Incident Pro?
It is only my rank speculation but the limited may well have been RCL International's kneejerk reaction to the Turbo Optima being released 4 months after the original Incident. If that were the case it would be a very interesting part of RCL's brief history. I think the Type A and B Ayk Vipers are d...
