Kyosho class of '87

Post by Ayk Viper »

I do believe in white tire lettering, driver dolls, tails for Javelins and bodies for Stinger MK 11s..they exist..I'm just lazy and my completion rate isn't high. I don't personally believe in reproductions so these are original.

The Optima in the foreground isn't perfect boxart...but is an ex-Japan back in the day unused early production version with clear chain guides and low shock towers.

PS congratulations to anyone brave enough to run chain 4wd in the VONATs...

I don't know exact production numbers and exactly when they switched to tall shock towers and brown chain covers...

I'm not sure if every Optima had an extra hole centred under the mech speed control or whether that was changed mid-production

Wonderful collection!!

I think all Optimas had the short shock towers (well, at least my two did). The Javelin was the first to have the taller ones standard, just like the Turbo Optima, Salute and Optima Pro.

Two often dismissed Kyoshos..the 2 Stingers...even if you don't like them they are a much cheaper source for Optima parts. I love them.

ROH, thanks for your input...I'll contribute a manual pic of the Optima variations in a second...

I actively appreciate anyone contributing what their NIB standard Optima contains...(wish they had SKUs/serial numbers)

My first hobby grade rc was a mk1 stinger. I beat the snot out of that poor car and the OS cz-1 engine when I was a kid. That was a fun car!

I've had some rear hubs from cross for ages: as it happens ther were 2 lefts or 2 rights in the bag so I never could use them
I allways thought those were for the TF1 spider. Can you tell us a little more on this?

I did see a gold optima running in japan but don't know if it was the anniversary kit, home-anodised , or maybe this kit

These cross rear hubs are ambidextrous and unlike the plastic originals, are symmetric and have suspension mounts on both sides.

This isn't the king midas gold Pro I have seen from Japan and is destined for a non gold painted Javelin frame (black?) and will sister a red anodized cross galored version of the same.

The cross stuff I believe comes from the GP10 onroad era. The inferno 10 used lazer suspension parts but the onroad versions used optima/rampage suspension and I think this gold stuff was directed at pimping the GP10 onroad...possibly also the Pure Ten used the same hubs with shorter arms.

(The only other option I can think of is Mid era but I don't think it was.)

In the early version of opitma 2.8mm ball parts are made of bronze not silver aluminum of late version.

Oops you're right: the rear hubs were ok, it was the front C-carrier which were wrongly packaged.
Are those gold arms also part of the cross kit?

Beautiful Collection! An Optima is high on my want list. I have a Mid but the original ones are a bit elusive.
