why are the wheel nuts and others called 8/32s and not 1/4? does anyone know? An 8-32 nut is a #8 sized shank with 32 threads per inch. A 4-40 is a #4 with 40 tpi. The nut/thread size isn't ever measured by the outside dimensions because you can have similar sized nuts or screws with the different ...
