Subaru Impreza rally car build

I’ve been making good progress on the Scooby during the virus lockdown. The car is basically finished, I’ve just a couple decals to fit onto the wing sideplates and to paint and install the side mirror. I’ll post pics when it’s finished. Meanwhile, I have the driver/navigator detail set Tamiya makes...

Re: Subaru Impreza rally car build

Got some painting done today. I'll do the roll cage tomorrow.
I wanted red accents to be flat but unfortunately I only have that color in gloss.
I'm planning to apply a water-based black wash over the driver's suits so maybe that will dull the red a little.

Re: It's starting now (Apr2020)... CWF (tub) and Shiny RC10

Holy smokes! With all those exotic parts and materials, this is gonna be one for the ages. "Shiny" indeed!! 8)
Looking forward to the next update.

Re: Subaru Impreza rally car build

haha... That has been a problem but I think much of the trembling subsided a bit after I retired a couple years ago. Also, I just drink more coffee and that seems to help. So, the roll cage is painted and clear coated. I had just enough paint left in the can to finish the car - not one drop t...

Re: It's starting now (Apr2020)... CWF (tub) and Shiny RC10

I agree, what a magnificent build!
As for the FL chassis not fitting the bulkhead, was this a common problem?
Perhaps the carbon is laminated over a production AE aluminum tub and this results in some extra space?
Anyway, you've resolved the problem so all is good.

Re: 3D Printed RC Parts

Just the guy I was looking for! Do you have pics of some of your awesome builds? I realize that you're planning to print an RC10 but Dadio has designed and printed a Yoke Dogfighter and you can read all about that in this link: https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=44144 Dadio, I hope y...

Re: Subaru Impreza rally car build

TT-02 Chassis and modifications: P1010662.JPG P1010663.JPG A racer friend from bitd, Bill Birmingham, gave these shocks to me. They’re scratch-made one-offs patterned after the small Delta shocks we ran on our CW Dominators. He ran them a few times and didn’t like them so he passed them on to me and...

Re: Subaru Impreza rally car build

As a 1:1 Impreza owner, I'm very interested in this build and I'm looking forward to your progress! Thanks Matt, I'm a little envious. I've never owned a Subaru but I've admired them since the Brat was introduced back in the '80's. You're probably gonna be a bit disappointed with the finished rally...

Re: Subaru Impreza rally car build

Well, I guess that makes three of us. I looked at that Lancia a very long time before I realized it was a model. :D That T/A looks amazing as well; I'd like to see more of that car. Anyway, there's one final modification to the Scooby that I’d like to cover. The body came from Tamiya with bod...

Re: Subaru Impreza rally car build

That turned out great. Thanks for sharing. I doubt Tamiya will switch to hex screws anytime soon. That's like asking for bearings instead of plastic bushings  No other company can touch them as far as number of kits to build. They have tons! You're right. Tamiya wouldn't sell more kits if they...

Re: We're getting there (May2020)... CWF (tub) and Shiny RC10

I think the shocks look perfect as they are -- they complement the body posts. metal appearance.jpg A few minutes with some Mothers or Nevr-Dull metal polish would have made them look like mirrors but I think they look great just as they are. Less is more. It's also cool that you've found a matching...

Re: Rough off road tracks, a relic of the past?

They are pretty much an obscure relic of the past indeed... The cars are also reflecting that, a lot more forward-biased now. This is disappinting for me to hear- today's "off road" seems more like "on road, with jumps" instead :| I remember hearing "offroad is onroad with ...

Re: I started something...

I still have no clue what this car is but I enjoy watching it come together.
Based upon the massive size of that aluminum side plate, I'm guessing that motor cooling was not a problem with this RC.
Very much looking forward to the next update. :D
